It has most definitely been tooled. I have asked for more high res pictures of the reverse. Using the photos he does have, it does not diagnose to a Wide AM, either. Tooling a coin to pass it off as something it is not is a big federal no-no.

I don't believe it has been altered. There are no signs of the rims being damaged. Often this is how struck through grease errors look on the Zincolns. That being said, if I am buying a coin because it is a variety like the '99 wide AM I want it to be as clean as possible. A common error like a grease filled die, which has no premium, would decrease the value of the coin in my eyes, not increase it.

It's a 1990 cent is my first thought!

I'm with Richard - if I'm going to buy one for obviously big money I want a nice one! I have found 1 of these in the last year compared to probably 2-dozen 98's and 2000's - they are rare.

I agree it's a 1990-p. What an out and out LIAR this person is to say it's a 1999 wide A M. GOOD EYE LOUIE.

Seller has been on EBay almost 4 years, 298 sales, 100% positive.
That said, the pictures border on useless. Regardless of what the text says, once the coin is in hand I'm not sure you could relate it to the pictures provided. I'd pass

I've been "suffering" from a bout of conjunctivitis, so my sight hasn't been all too keen. I felt it was tooled on the reverse on the A and M, as the photos showed a sharp angle on both letters like a filing and polishing. Looking closer at the photo from the auction, it was "photoshopped". Here is where the seller fraudulently doctored the photos to make it appear as though it were a Wide AM. There are a number of die diagnostics that can be done on the coin, and this coin did not exhibit any such characteristics.

I also agree with the struck through grease... and it being an 1990

Looks like it has rubbed in somebodies car coin tray, either stacked with a dime or an offset cent. Look at the rub marks. - May have started out as a greaser. But the date was probably rubbed off over 10,000 miles.

Bad photos. Selling $500 coins they could afford a better camera.

The $500 price tag is what moves it from a dumb mistake to likely fraud.... I may pay a buck or two out of curiosity, Like a dug coin, to find out the date.

I set grease strikes, dug coins, old worn or holed coins and "worn die" strikes aside, they make inexpensive collectible items.

The reverse is the correct one for a WAM. However, anyone trying to sell a coin for $500 needs to take much better pictures OUT OF THE 2x2. Also, some higher resolution pictures are a must have for a coin like this....with close ups of the AM and the date. The strike does appear to be a grease filled obverse die, it has all the characteristics.

As far as I can tell, the "G" is not serifed in the initials. That failing, it would not be the proper die variety. Are there higher resolution photos that show a serif on the "G"? Like I said, my eyesight has not been keen recently, but the photos provided by the seller in no way reflect what look like serifs on the "G".

Terriffic investigative work NPcoin. I didn't like the looks of that initial that should have looked like this: G or close it.
