It seem like every decade has its great coins that when first struck didn't seem that special, but now are valuable. Does anyone have any opinions of sleepers that may take off in value? Could be coins that still be found in circulation or older coins. I think pre 1982 Lincoln memorials may start increasing in value soon, but that is my opinion. Also I think that the 1955-s is undervalued because of its lower (I can't really say low) mintage.
Clean early Lincolns, Liberty nickels, Seated Dimes, Not exactly sleepers but - Clean early Mint State Lincolns, Liberty nickels, Seated Dimes, to expand: All early Lincoln's before 1943, not slabbed, no carbon, nice strikes, original color either RD, RB, or Brown but they must be clean! Liberty Nickles in the same! Seated everthing in AU-55 or better with original surfaces! 1950, 51, 52, 53, proof Lincolns in PR-65 or better - they are not priced according to their full set equivalent. 1943-S Lincolns perfectly clean - these should be in MS-65 or better a $30 coin in just a short time. The first couple years of Jefferson's in nice mint state, (doesn't it seem odd that a 1938-P Jeff is just $11 or so in BU?) Most modern Proof Lincoln's graded (I hate to say graded, ick!) - that but they are so fragile. They have been $3 to $6 forever raw and the MS-69's can be had for $12 to $19 sometimes! I do not think that pre-1982 copper will be sleepers in our grandchildren's lifetime, at least in common circulated condition. Plus nothing much after 1964 - if there is sleepers, they will stay asleep.
I think wide A M's should increase in value once collectors can't find them any more because of hoarding, making special WAM sets. The well will run almost dry maybe in 2-5yrs. IMHO.
Eisenhower Dollars... (Beautiful coins, and they sell cheap, most of the time) Roosevelt Dimes... (In my opinion most over looked series) Jefferson Nickels (Can be sleepers, but you have to wait and watch a little)
XF to AU barber dimes. Undervalued, underpriced, underappreciated. That and with the quarters continuing on the commemorative saga early MS dates will continue to climb especially in the late 30's.
Ike's & Roosevelt are really over looked I agree 100% 1 Day they will not that why I pick up the earlier Roosevelt Proof & Ike's too
Any problem free coin in AU or better condition with characteristics that make it easily attributed to the specific working die that struck it.
Early colonials and French coins that were used in the US colonies. The things that will go DOWN in value is toned coins. JMPO
They need to be overlooked how anyone can think They need to be overlooked how anyone can think that an Ike or Roosey is a pretty coin is beyond me - 2 of the ugliest coins ever minted - they are right there with SBA, Washington Quarters, Franklin Halves, Kennedy halves, most modern comemes, Sac dollars, the memorial Reverse on Lincoln, all coins that Frank Gasparo designed. Folks these are ugly, ugly, ugly and they are also ugly, ugly, and ugly! If we had nothing to compare them to they would still be ugly, ugly, ugly! We do have beautiful coin designs though not many except the American Eagles lately. I know what you all are thinking, Yes I relapsed on my tyrant about ugly coins but what do you expect? I've been good now for weeks and these ugly coins, well, they just give me bad dreams. Anyone that thinks any of those coins have artistic value needs help, new glasses or a lession in classic U.S. coin designs - am I alone here?????????????????????????
I just said they were overlooked... I think they are the ugliest coins I have ever seen in my life, along with the SBA and Jefferson Nickel, and I would never collect them... Thinking and Doing, two different things
The Franklin Halves are beautiful... I love the way a proof frankie looks! I do dislike the Kennedy though...
Under Values Coins I think BU Peace Silver Dollar will be taking off very soon. If isn't a very large set to put together and I see that there are a few tough dates, but for most people it can be accomplish to complete this set. I do see that Roosie has been over look for a long time and not sure if this series will take off or not. Especially if you have a complete set with the full torch or band in BU or better. Also if this coin becoming a redesign coin and that can change anything. Earlier coins like the Bust or Seated or even Barber's, but most of these coins have gone up in value already. I don't agree with the Susan B or Sac dollars. These are just way too ugly coins and I don't see myself ever be collecting them. IKE is much better, but again it is too simple and cheap enough to for anyone to collect them. You can even get alot of these still at your local banking center. I do think Lincoln can be a sleeper as well. With the original BU Red condition for all is good to acquired for this collection. But it all depend on if there is a high demand for anything I just said. If there is not demand for the coins then no matter how rare it is, it will not be bought and can't be a sleeper.
I don't think beauty of the coin design will have any bering on it's value now or in the future. For example, look at the horrid Barber designed coins. As far as what may be sleepers.....hmmmm....well, hopefully everything in my collection! Thats what I'm hoping. Guy~
Nobody will ever make Peace dollars hot and heres why Nobody will ever make Peace dollars hot and here's why - it is the hardest U.S. coin to grade consistently that I have ever seen. The design although I do like it very much was ruined after 1921 - they eventually cut the dies down so much that they destroyed the original intent. I never, I mean never have even one person a month that asks if I have any Peace dollars, not even one - and that's dealing with several hundred customers, not one! It's a relatively short series and the keys are impossible in MS-65 unless you are rich. Even when a Peace dollar is MS-64 or 5 it looks Unc at best. Run don't walk away from Peace dollars they will never be popular and if not for ruining the design I like them, very much and really wish the above was not "so true"!
The old quarter design is a sleeper to me. We'll probably never see it again with all these quarter programs. I wouldn't doubt they'd come out with the "50 animal quarters" next. Even if they did want to go back to one design, I wouldn't doubt that they'd come out with a new design.
No need to be sorry, without different opinions, and different ways of collecting, this hobby would just be weird...
