The other evening I was doing some reading on Seated Liberty Quarters. The total run was broken down into the list below and pictures were not included:

    1. 1838-1853-No motto on reverse

    2. '53 only- Arrowheads at date and rays on reverse

    3. '54-'55- Arrowheads at date, no rays on reverse

    4. '56-'65- No motto on reverse

    5. '66-'91- With motto on reverse

    6. '73-'74- Arrowheads at date

    7. -75-'91- With motto on reverse

    So my questions are:

    1. Does #1 have arrowheads at the date?
    2. Do #'s 2 and 3 have the motto or did this not start until '61?
    3. Are #'s 3 and 4 the only ones with arrowheads at the date and are the arrowheads the same?

Anyone that help, it would greatly be appreciated.

1- No. Arrows were added midway through '53 to denote a reduction in weight. The arrows lasted through '55. The '53 had both Arrows & Rays.

2- The motto did not appear until '66. Coins dated before that have No Motto.

3- Arrows reappeared in '73 & '74 to denote an increase in weight.

You may get a 53 w/o arrows but beware of altered '58s.

I've been waiting for a Seated Liberty pro.

Could you help me with something.

Are there certain years where the finger is up on the flagpole or not? I've noticed that some have the finger sticking up on it and some don't.

I guess this would also apply to the Half-Dollars too.
