I am considering adding this coin to my collection I will be holding this coin for 10 years before selling it and I wish to get some feedback on the coin! Here is the link to view the coin http://www.mintproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1282 THANKS ALL!
I'm sure it's just about perfect. I would look and see what these have been selling for lately: Heritage archives, ebay completed listings, teletrade completed listings, etc, to see if the price seems fair. PERSONALLY, I would wait a long time to buy one, as it's my opinion that interest in them is high, lots of people want them, and that prices will come down as interest wanes. Just my opinion, and I am no expert. I also hesitate to spend well over 2x bullion on a modern gold coin. I'd look at a "real" Saint or Liberty double eagle, myself. JMHO. Best of luck in your collecting! I am sure more learned opinions will follow.
My honest opinion is that is a total ripoff. I would just look for a 69 for hopefully a significantly reduced price. I bet there is absolutely no difference between them in hand. Very neat coin, just not worth that price imo. Good luck!
My dad has one of those. I would wait. It was exciting to send it 4 slabbing and coming back 70 1st, but then it wore off. And I see an imperfection. Maybe cherrypick a really nice one and resend it??
Yeah. I've been suprised to see these prices so high. Alot of these coins seem to be coming back as 70's. So I don't see how they could be rare enough to warrant prices like that.
Take a look at this extreme magnification of this coin! http://forums.about.com/n/docs/docD...ins&guid=ef6cef0e-da78-456f-b0ef-2a969d98d3b9
For the price of that coin you could purchase two from the mint today. The chances are one of the two could be a 70 so I would do that and cherrypick them.
Not a wise idea. Are you aware that the the AGE's and ASE's graded as 70's from 7-8 years ago are selling for about half, or less, than what they did then ?
Get it raw... I'm big on having graded coins.. My morgans are graded, my quarter eagles are graded, and I sold most of the raw stuff...But still have some With this coin, I don't think it matters if you have a 70... Most of the ones from the mint are 70's anyway... My friend got 2/3 of his as 70's... I don't think these will go down, or up, much in value in the next 5 years, 10 years, who knows... I say raw is good enough
Thanks for all your opinions on this coin! I have decided NOT to buy the coin and instead I bought 2 of the same coin in uncirculated condition at current gold price plus $10.00. I will wait and see where the certified ones are heading before I decide to buy or not. With the U.S. Government spending like they are I just want to have about 10% of my assets in Gold and platinum. I have been a little worried that in the not to distant future my cash savings wont buy as much as they do today!
What exactly is a 1st strike LOL and lets be honest here if you just want to keep a coin for it's value in 10 years then buy some nice raw gold or even get a platinum one
Honestly? You would be a fool to buy this coin. Get one raw or in OGP, or hand-pick a really nice 69 non-FS if you must own a slab. The first strike MS 70 is a fad which will lose its luster before long. RUN AWAY!
