look at it in a different way- the product is not the same. these are 2 different products. sure the coins are of the same king but the product is not just the coins it is the coins and the wrapper and the wrapper brings value to it for some people. think of hershey kisses in different packaging u would be surprised how much money they made just becoz of packaging.
You can't tell which mint produced the items in the "bank wrapped rolls". Rolls from the mint are clearly labeled as to which mint produced a particular roll.
I haven't seen any markings as to mint (P or D) on the mint boxes of five hundred other than the Pittsburg address. What do the coins from Denver have for an address? 0CD
Sorry about that Zero. I was a bit unclear in my previous statement. What I should have said was that the "collector rolls" of dollars that you purchase from the mint are clearly marked either "P" or "D". The rolls from the direct ship program that the mint is conducting contain no such designation. The direct ship rolls are considered "non-numismatic, circulation-grade coins" (their words). They are the same rolls that you could pick up at the bank.
I think that's a good point (and we, being collectors, of all people, ought to understand that). The fact is, the rolls in the original mint wrappers are/will be much more rare (by orders of magnitudes) than rolls in other wrappers. So? Some people collect rolls, and, among those who do, a number of them perceive the wrapper to convey a premium. (Is it that much different than, say, a first day cover stamp? It's the same stamp, right?)
Collecting the "wrappers" on mint released products is no different than someone who collects different styles of slabs from different companies. To each their own. I know me personally, the new me is trying really hard not to get all caught up in this, but it looks like the Lincoln rolls have sucked me in. I refuse to get all caught up with the other coin rolls though......
dont worry ill convince u . since i have no hopes left for my collection. i am hoping u can put the greatest comem collection ever assembled together
$300+ for a piece of paper. The Chinese should be mass producing them soon. Any kid could these days. 0CD
I have a subscription for 2 Presidential Coin Covers every time they release one. USPS just delivered my Wm Harrisons on Friday. Those things should be worth at least $2.00, ha
I know i read on the mint web site that the direct ship boxes could be all P all D or mixed rolls(whole rolls of 1 mint)
I hope that the Harrison covers are worth more than $2/piece. I've got three of them and three of all the others before him. Washington is already paying $50/each. Harrison may be another hot one. God knows why considering his short time of service.
I was just joking. But they aren't worth $400 like the rolls. Same thing here, I got several boxes of 2 each that the box hasn't even been opened. I think they are P21 thru P29 now. Hopefully there are 2 in each box. That's what my subsciption says, and they are billing me for 2 each. That's the bad thing about not opening the boxes I guess.
