Agreed. I'd grade it a straight up Fine. But then again I don't care about such things. It's an honest and respectable Domitian denarius and that's all that matters.
I thought it was a bit high but it was bought at an Internet auction. I bought it because the price was low enough. Lol
Nice coin... As for the slab, however, I am not sure how great ICG was at grading. As Bing and David suggest, that Domitian seems Fine or so to me. My collection contains one - only one - slab and it is an ICG. My Gordian III got an F12. Which is maybe a little on the low side? aVF at least, I think. It was $13.88 on eBay, so the price was right. I don't really care about the low grade, but I question the level of consistency at ICG. The only reason I've kept it in the slab is I've always wanted to be able to say I have at least one slab - it makes me feel like a serious collector. Someday, after a few drinks, I'm going to bust it out...
When you use a slabber for ancients other than NGC, you should feel lucky that the coin is correctly identified and genuine. I do not pretend to have seen all the brands but problems more serious than not knowing F from VF do happen. I suggest buying plastic slabs and doin your own if all you want is a box around your coin.
I sure didn't but this for the slab. The slab came with the coin. The price was low enough and the coin grabbed my interest.
Def a nice coin, it is a great learning experence for guys like me that are learning about the grading system for ancients. I am same as others where since I dont go by the grade it doesnt matter even if they put EF or slug..lol
