nice group once again Urban! Those silver certs are nice The small sized national lacked alot of artistic touches... they could have done so much more with it lol Just look what they did with the natianal currency...
I realy like that $20 National currency note :high5: How many notes would you need to find to have the full set ?
well to just finish in denominations from $1-20 small sized 1928-present i still need about 120 notes or so. i have for the time being put on hold going for the $50's and $100's as for just the face value that is going to be a lot of $$$$$ i think some of the notes might be almost impossible to find as some are short prints and quite expensive. but i am still going to keep plugging away thanks all for the compliments on the notes. it makes me feel good to see not only do i get something out of collecting these notes as i post them here and on my banknote page others can also enjoy:thumb:
How are you collecting them? Are you looking for one note from each series plus one star note from each series or are you digging into block numbers or print runs?
for right now i am just going with one regular and one star note(if a star note was printed) from each series. there are just way to many blocks to go for. i think that is a quest that is just near impossible:bigeyes:
Nice notes Urban...but the 1928 D is not the main Key... the 1928 "E" is the real key and in Gem will run you well in the 5-6K range. I started the New York Collection over 4 years ago now and while I have been side tracked with obtaining some Large Sized notes, I still pick up a few small size when I run across them. You are right the $50 and $100's are expensive and almost impossible in some Series especially the "Stars" Keep on going Urban...as I mentioned a year or so ago, with me doing NY and you doing Chitown..all we need is 10 others to fill in the remaining Banks LOL After 4-5 more Large Size, I will resume the Small Size hunt for the elusive stars I do not have. Again, nice pick ups...now go get that 1928E :kewl: SGR
I have been thinking about doing a bank set...but I haven't decided what bank yet. It will probably be either Boston of San Francisco...but I don't have the time or cash to start it right now.
lol sorry my mistake. silver certificates are not my specialty. i guess it should read **SEMI KEY** i hope to have my quest done within in the next few years. i would like to get it done by this year because i plan to start having children and there goes all my extra $$$ for notes but at least i know my kids will have a nice collection waiting for them. hopefully one day i can get to your status:thumb:
I think the 1928C, D and E are all commonly referred to as 'key' notes in that series, however the 1928E is the rarest, most expensive and the 'true key' to the series. The 1928C is second in rarity and lately almost seems more difficult to find than the 1928E's. I was going to buy one on Heritage earlier this evening...was a Chet Krause collection note in EF, but the price got up to where I would have had to have spend $360+ for a chance to get it and the note had a couple problems that I couldn't live with for that price! The other note I didn't get was a nice 1928 $50 Chicago FRN (was wondering if you might have been bidding against me on that one!) Wasn't labeled as such, but it is the note pictured in the Standard Guide to Small-Size US PAper Money. I bailed at about $250 (with bp) on that one! This was the first time I bid on a Heritage auction and did pick up a couple notes...one on a whim which I got at a decent price and another which I probably paid just a little too much for! I'll post them when I get them.
