I saw this piece and really liked how original it was....not to mention that it is not an easy coin to find. I wanted to share.

Nice coin, I love those old proofs. I personally don't care for the toning on this coin, but it is definitely a nice coin!

At least for me, even a cursory glance at the date of these late-date buffs and you can see the difference between a well-struck MS and PR coin -- even with the more difficult mattes (the brilliant's are a breeze in-hand because of their reflective surfaces). The PR coin's date is far, far more bold and the edges are square. The difference is so obvious to me now that I've seen a few side-by-side that making a determination is as simple as looking closely at the date.

Don't believe me? Find the best struck MS coin you can and compare the date to the coin above.

    Hope this helps...Mike

Wow, the strike is marvelous! And I love the striped toning on the obverse. A stunna!

I think the same can be said for the "Five Cents" on the reverse. They just seem to jump out at you unlike an MS coin would.

Nice one. I like that sort of "banded sandstone" toning it has, I think it complements the design very well.
