Well it doesn't look too bad - under 2hr's....I'll have to see if I can talk my mom into letting me do this! I've never been to a show this big, and I would also like to meet some more of ya'll! Speedy
Swine flu It would be interesting to see whether the swine flu news would affect attendance at coins shows. So far this flu seems pretty tame in the US, but the media are all over it.
Here we go.....>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Getting ready to leave for Cinci. I should be there by this afternoon. Will keep everyone posted.
Well I was thinking about coming - then I thought maybe I wouldn't... But to help make up my mine, I'm now working all day on getting DVD's done for funerals today, and tommorrow. Speedy
Last night, Heritage sold an 1804 S$1 at the Central States show ! PR58 PCGS (sorry slab-haters !) Anyone care to take a guess at the final price ? No peeking !!!! (If you know the answer, keep still...)
Arrived at the show about 2:30pm today. Absolutely incredible for a first time visitor at a large show like this. Overwhelming is the best word to describe the day. It seemed as if most of the dealers had their primo stuff out. Too steep for my wallet. My buddy I was with said, kinda makes you want to pack your coin set up and stick it at the bottom of your closet. There were some absolutely gorgeous coins. We were able to visit all the exhibition tables and half of the boarse floor today. Tomorrow we will tackle the other half plus we have an ECI meeting to attend at 12pm. I did have the pleasure of meeting Charmy the Penny Lady and TPSadler today. We talked very briefly and I promised to return tomorrow. Very nice to meet both of them. Purchase of the day..... 1946 ChoiceBU Washington Quarter for the book and the most incredible Commemorative book. (DaggerJon I will pm you later this weekend with the info....you need this book) Tomorrow will be the big day. Talk to you all later.
Actually it seems slabs appear to have restorative powers for very expense coins. After long periods of storage in them he grades continue to improve every time they are re-examined. I'm sure it is just a matter of a little more time and this coin will be restored to PR60 and the last of the wear and handling will be gone. It's done wonders for he Dexter specimen. When I first saw it raw in 1990 it was a severely hairlined ugly mottled gray PF45. Now after many years of slabs and several re-examinations it has been restored in its latest holder to PR65. I wonder how much smaller the counterstamp on the reverse has gotten, or if it is completely gone now. After all, a coin that has a counterstamp couldn't possibly be a PR65 could it?
