read and be sorry that so many more coins will show up in ur face

As the 111th Congress comes back from its first long district break, its numismatic plate is not very full. Some of the bills likely to become law over the next two years have already been introduced but await the tweaking needed to make them into good coinage law.

Other than introduction, nothing much has yet happened - that is likely to come later in this first session - but the introduction has put a small spotlight on sponsors and intent with the aim of eventually guiding some of them into laws passed by the House and Senate and signed into law by President Barrack Obama.

    The current bills are:

That's interesting...I wonder if the girl scout coins will look like cookies...mmmm, thin mints. The NASA and Mark Twain coins could be pretty cool, also the 5 star Generals. Seems a bit of overkill, but look at all the crazy stuff Canada is pumping out...

They already have 2 commems legislated for next year, and then 1 each for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. So it will be interesting as legislators jockey for position to get their bill nominated for 1 of those prestigous second spots for any one of those years.

What they should do is pass all of them with this proviso: All but the palladium coins must be copper/nickel half dollars available in rolls.

These are all modern commems that will have no market so their existance is totally irrelevant to the bulk of the coin collecting world. NASA might get the nerd herd all excited but all in all ..these coin are pretty much a yawn.

Everyone will be focused on "real coinage" like the national park quarters and the new Native American coin and ofcourse our beloved Presidents.

I already have the reverse for the Mark Twain. I want a steamboat on the Mississippi. Possibly a second alternative would the two boys whitewashing the fence. Better yet these two boys fishing along the Mississippi while a steamboat passes by. What do you think?

I'd go steamboat since steamboating is in a lot of his writing; I'll buy one. I'll also go with the Girl Scouts one. Why not?

I'd get the palladium double eagle. I don't own any palladium and I didn't get the gold double eagle. This would be a nice compromise and a beautiful coin, too.
