I know the Half Disme gets all the attention, but I think the sister design should get a little bit. Here is a photo of both for comparison.

The Half Disme looks like a banshee.

Recently I had the pleasure to handle and drool on an MS65 graded example of the half disme...

    the price tag?? only $750k

Judging by these pics, I think everyone got it all wrong... Disme was a snake oil salesman "beauty potion" and these were the advertisements.

Drinking Half a Disme made you frumpy, but drinking a full Disme made you a fox!

I remember reading somewhere that the wild turkey almost became the national bird instead of the eagle. Ben Franklin and his shinanagins...

True... but Liberty is MUCH foxier.

Looks a lot like a 1793 half cent... the only flowing hair facing left amongst regular issues.

I handled an MS65 as well ! Likely the same coin (there aren't many).

    Here's a funny story...

No lie - there I was, minding my own business, checking out auction lots. I was in a VERY high powered room full of folks WAY over my head (names withheld). My wife, a newbie, was checking auction lots for the first time.

A couple of hours go by. Out of nowhere, my wife says "Here's an interesting one". The 1792 h10c MS65.

    I say "W-e-l-l-l-l-l honey, you certainly have good taste ! That's a 7-figure coin !"

You can bet that perked up some attention amongst the Power Playahs !

One of 'em says "Lemmee see that thing !"

Another looks out of the corner of her eye and casually says "Nah. $750 thousand - tops".

Examining the coin closely, the other guy says "I'll take the under on that one..."

My wife was in shock !

Now she has The Bug...

I'm told, by folks far smarter than I, that "disme" is pronounced "deem".

Probably why the eagle won and not the turkey...

My guess is that the woman who looked out of the corner of her eye is a LEGEND in the Numismatic field.
