From - http://www.coinworld.com/ A precipitous drop in Federal Reserve orders for circulating coinage prompted the U.S. Mint to announce April 23 that no more Jefferson 5-cent coins and Roosevelt dimes will be struck at either the Denver or Philadelphia Mints for the remainder of calendar year 2009 for circulation.
Wow that's surprising. Now we only have one circulating coin left that doesn't change designs every month. Thanks for posting this. I wonder how many were already minted and if these will be rarities...
Well then . . . it seems 2009 is going to be quite a historic coin year, for many reasons, including (importantly) low mintages all around, eh? Does anyone have any idea what this portends for prices for 2009 nickels or dimes in the future?
ok boys time to go and buy rolls of common dimes and nickels as well this si going to be a great year it seems
good dont forget to get us one too. we wont have any hair left on our heads after this year every coin from the mint is becoming a rarity
I hate to say it but that's kinda why I started collection so recently... I'll have to look for older stuff too, I just have to figure out where to look...
Thanks !!! you have to go hunting for it though otherwise when the news spreads like wildfire there wont be any to be had
If banks were more cooperative it would help. It is pretty rare to find a teller who will look in the vault for you
I have 2 banks who are most helpful. One lady even gave me a 90%er and she knew it was silver. I'll get some boxes in the next few days.
According to the US mint website Production Figures Jan 09 thru March 09 Jefferson Nickel P = 36.00M D = 33.36M Total = 69.36M Roosevelt Dimes P = 78.50M D = 41.50M Total = 120.0M 2008 Production Totals Jefferson Nickel P = 287.76M D = 352.80M Total = 640.56M Roosevelt Dimes P = 413.00M D = 637.50M Total = 1050.50M
about 10 times scarcer give or take a few but the way its going to be saved i guess it wont be worth much for the next couple of decades
