What a suspicious lot you are. LOL

I think that I will accept the comment that said "just be thankful...".

We are not suspicious:hammer: You just wont tell us the grade of the coin, who graded it, what type of coin it is, no picture, wont tell us what year, wont say what mint. Clearly something is not right here.

well i am not going to get into the OP thing but yes i have submitted coins to the TPG and some of them have come back toned ( i hated that) and in all honesty its a shame that happens but yes it does.

Perhaps the method you packaged your coin for shipment...the paper could have had a high sulphur content. Drastic changes in humidity and temperature could contribute. From what I understand manilla envelopes have a high sulphur content. Just a theory.

So was it a 65, 66, 67, 68, 69? If it were my coin I'd know part owner or not. Your example coin was a Peace dollar is that what it is or just an example?

I'm not suspicious at all...but toning is one of those things that can be caused by a ton of different things. Different coins tone differently and different grading companies factor that into their grading differently. So, if we knew what type of coin it was...we'd know how that coin typically tones. Since original luster is also a part of the grading...telling us what year and mint would imply how much luster there would have been (as the year and mint would be specific to the strike). You're purposely withholding information that is needed to answer your question.

I get it that you don't want to post a picture...I'll admit that this "partial ownership" thing is a little strange, but I understand that you won't post one. So, we are asking for the information we would get from a photo.

Rctoners did a great job of lining out that information in his post:

    The answer

    I WAS WRONG!

The coins were not toned at all. I was looking at pictures of the coins, and some of them do look very different (color wise) in those pictures.

I was told that they always take close-up pictures in a way that highlights toning, and that's what I was seeing. But they also take wide angle pictures showing the coin inside the holder, and in those pictures, I can see that the coins look exactly the same as before.

    PHEW!
