I have been thinking about getting this graded by PCGS... what are your opinions on the grade? Please be brutually honest.

Brutally honest? Georgeous....gotta agree with Eddie.:)

To add: if it didn't have a "D" on it I'd almost think it was a proof....

I would say MS66 but I don't know if it would go FBL. It looks like they aren't completely full in a couple places but then again, the picture is awful small to make that determination.

Wow...I feel bad bucking the trend, but I don't think it has a shot at 66 or FBL. Here's why:

The fields are not all that matters. This coin has many hits on the devices. Prominently are the parallel nicks on Franklin's hair. There are about a dozen of these hits, and being roughly in the same direction, they bother me as some kind of light damage.

On the reverse, the hits are strongest on the left half of the bell. Also, while the coin has a strong strike, I see about 4 separate marks that would keep this coin from being FBL.

It's still a nice, clean coin overall. I'd give it MS-64, shot MS-65, but ix-nay on the bell lines. Not worth having graded, in my opinion.

I have a hard time with the FBL I think a little better pic might help. Seems a little dark on the reverse. I am not good at grading but it is a great looking coin and with out better picture of the reverse. I'll go 65 or 66 but not FBL without close ups. I would love to have it. Ice

Don't feel bad, I have my own opinions about the coin as well...I feel it is a strong shot 65 Full Bell and I will tell you why. Try finding any 50 D with a full bell. it is more of an ardious task than one might think.

This coin is very lusterous yes but there are a few hits on the coin that I think would preclude it from getting into a 66 holder.

A very nice coin yes but $1K material??? I doubt it. But we will see off she goes to the PCGS guys, and hopefully they are in a good mood that day.

Which is probably the most significant grading variable of all. ;)

    Anacs ms-66 fbl

PCGS MS-64 if I could see the bell line better I would say FBL PCGS is very hard on FBL
NGC MS-64FBL for sure but it maybe a MS-65 FBL to NGC

If there was away to get graded on a Wednesday they claim grader are more likely give out a better grade so I have been told.

I would hope that doesn't matter. While it is true that strikes need to be evaluated on a year by year basis, they have set up the idea that a "FBL" coin is a definition of a full strike. There are a couple of places on this coin where it looks like that is interrupted. I would hope that just because this year didn't strike quite as well as others...that the TPGs wouldn't lower their standard for FBL.

I wouldn't get your hopes up expecting a PCGS MS66 FBL. As Jello commented , they are harder to get a FBL from , rather than NGC , who is a bit more liberal it seems .

What are the slabbed value differences for this coin ? PCGS MS66 FBL / MS65 FBL
    NGC MS66 FBL/ MS65 FBL
You may get a PCGS MS65. But I think you may be more happy with a NGC MS66/65 FBL
IMHO. Please do let us know , your decision and what grade it came back as. Nice Coin. Thanks for sharing.

Just for contextual purposes here's a 1962-D PCGS MS-65 FBL from years gone by. Not mine, BTW...

That doesn't surprise me. Again, IMHO I believe the better shot at a 66 FBL , may be with NGC. I could certainly be wrong though.

I know what you mean, Coinman. Kind of like trying to predict the weather, sometimes. :headbang:

I don't much like Franklins , but that one sure is pretty. The 62-D doesn't do much for me.
