Of all the nice designs submitted, they chose this one. Yuk, I don't like it! Story: http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=6622 Also, at the bottom of the article, I think they forgot to omit this as we are talking about the cent, not the Sac dollar, LOL.:kewl:
That's... not that bad. I'm somewhat confused by the desire to place "ONE NATION" on the reverse, though.
About the "one nation, etc, the article says this: The recommendation of the wheat sheaf for the design will go to the United States Mint, with one suggested alteration. Commission members did ask that the words "One Cent" be spelled out and that the words "One Nation" be omitted, he said.
Well, they could have used the reverse of the 1909 cent. That would have been a heck of a lot better than this. :crying:
I guess we are so far removed from the days of a desire for artistic aesthetics in our coinage that this should be no surprise. You would think that we would not have hit our peak 100 years ago or more. Awfull, purely awfull.
WE REALLY SHOULD ABOLISH THE 2 COMMITTES, AND GET SOME FOLKS ON A COUPLE NEW COMMITEES THAT HAVE AN OUNCE OF ARTISTIC TALENT. sorry folks, just realized my caps lock was on that design is really bad. there were a couple really nice designs in the mix, not sure why they choose this design over the others... go figure!
It's not even an original design. Taken in part from this coin here: German Weimar Republic My 12 year old grandson could have done better than that.
lol that's exactly what it looks like! IMO these 2 new designs are just terrible. What were they thinking :desk:.
I may be the black sheep here but I gotta say I like the design. And I think that Weimer Republic thing is purely coincidental....
I actually like the design for the Sacagawea reverse for next year. But the one for the penny.......YUK!
