    Anyone subscribe to CoinWorld?

    I saw the following:

D.C. sites might sell second 2009 cent May 14
Unless local banks have them on hand May 14, the only places the public will likely be able to obtain the second of four 2009 Lincoln cents on the first day of issue is at a launch ceremony site in Indiana and possibly at two or more locations in Washington, D.C.

Whoa . . . what's this about?! Can anyone tell me more of the story? (Hint: I work in DC, and if it's in DC, I'll make a point to get there, and I'll happily send some cents out)

I thought this was common knowledge for the local folks.

The Mint headquarters has a "giftshop counter" in the lobby. It's on the right as you enter the door just before the metal detectors and a very limited selection.

There is also a Mint "kiosk" at Union Station which is also small with a limited selection.

I was over at the Mint headquarters last week and asked about the next cent and the woman behind the counter said that a decision hadn't been made yet.

Is this what the CoinWorld article was talking about? It seemed as though (from the first paragraph) that it would be a more public kind of offering.

    You're referring to 801 9th Street?

It never occurred to me to purchase anything from the Mint in person (avoiding postage and handling I presume) . . . do they sell things at the kiosk or at HQ that are common coins (i.e., cents, quarters, dollars, but not commemoratives)?

Does the mint have a store or something in the DC area?

Yes -- it has two stores (well, a "lobby store" at the Mint building, and a kiosk at Union Station).

My best understanding is this: at each of the two locations, they will be giving away (or, actually "exchanging" -- i.e., 50 cents per roll) up to 6 bank rolls per person of 2009-P cents (no D's).

I'll be there, and I'll fill folks in as to what happened.

And I'll want to trade half of my P rolls for D's!
