Sorry for the big pictures but I likes it - here is my newest. Enjoy the solid brown beauty - in my opinion only. Please feel free to post any opinion on the coin. This is one bag mark free coin. A good new addition. I don't like being cryptic - but I am wondering if someone will notice something that I did. So post your thoughts.
From about 7:00 to 10:00 on the obverse rim it appears that there is some discoloration. Kinda looks like the coin was darkened and some got on the rim accidentally (that or they meant to get the whole rim and didn't) Just my opinion.. still a really nice coin.
IMO, The tips of the feathers seem a bit kind of globular. The diamonds on the ribbon are faint. It doesn't look like it's from wear so I'll say a weak strike. The reverse is very nice with a strong N in CENT. But a beautiful coin, nonetheless. Bruce
Well ruin it cause we probably are not seeing the same thing. What I see is an uneven strike in the legend. Look at "OF AM" then across to "ITED". The letters are not at clear and crisp a strike as the rest of the coin. I was not sure if the way the dentils look from 7 to 10 caused it. And trust me this coin in hand is a smooth even brown and I think merits the 65 grade NGC gave it. So there really is no wear, but a weak strike in places on the obverse. So the diamonds and 188 in 1882. 2 is bold and 188 are weak. On my 10x glass you don't really notice it, under the 16x the second bead in the necklass disappears. The reverse is just great. So I am not sure what you saw Jack - maybe you noticed a variety I have not seen yet. Like I said I should not be cryptic like that.
No biggie, just the die chip at 8:00 reverse and some shelf doubling in the wreath under CE in " cent "
Looks like a Snow variety on the date. RPD to the north. Otherwise agree with the other's opinions as well. Excellent coin.
Ahh - the die chip - yep saw it, but not the shelf doubling on the reverse. Shelf double on the obverse also - but again I only see it with the 16x glass cause it is weak. Almost like a light halo effect around the letters.
I also did not suspect wear because of the very clean surfaces, but hard to tell from the pictures. Great coin!
