Honestly, no I would not pay $9 for that coin. Appears to have been harshly cleaned based on the pics.

I think Doug is correct. The reverse shows harsh cleaninig the most from what I can see. It is a shame because the coin itself as far as wear is concerned is very handsome.

Following Numismedia prices, $9 should get you an MS-63

For whatever that's worth. (And I'm new enough to know that I have no idea how much that info is worth)

Is the PVC damage at the nose and forehead and downward?

what is being called "cleaned" (scratches) by other posters, could very well be die polish. It's tough to tell from the pics.

My biggest concern is that the coin appears AU. I would not value it at $9. Maybe $1. Sorry.

I agree with this as what could be - my concern would be what I think is the haze on the coin from the pictures. Which could just be the pictures. I would need to see the coin in hand.

You picked up a PCGS at a yard sale? Nice.

In any event, my question is more about grading to begin with.

On the column just to the right of the middle, it looks like a big gash (you can see it in your second and even more on your third picture).

    So two questions:

    a. is that gash on the coin, or the holder?

    b. if it's on the coin, is it normal that you can get an MS66 with that kind of a gash?

Is this the picture if so the gash is 5X with my zoom lens

I agree with borgovan and mark_h.
More likely die polishing than cleaned coin.
Well struck coin too. Door and windows in the portico show well.
    Not full steps.

The haze is my main concern.

Right . . . is the gash on the coin? One can still get an MS66 with a gash like that?
