help finding a coin?

    my grandfather has a coin that i am trying to find another one. probelm is i don't know what it is or where to look. it is a buffalo nickel with 1812 printed on front. on back has 1950-1953 across the top picture of a cross and looks like a snow flake or something like that. in the middle has 17th INF for the infintry and then a buffalo on bottom. the far bottom has korea. hope that is enough info. i can take a picture with my phone if needed.

    found out it was given to the 1st battalion 17th infantry before deploying. wanted to find another one for my moms dad who was there and lost his about 20 years ago.

    Since there is no such thing as a !912 buffalo nickel, maybe you have some sort of medal or token. I know a few Korean War Vets and I can ask them if they know. I Googled 17th INF and the unit insignia has a buffalo on it.

    It's a token not a coin. You may check coin shops but I think that will be hard to find.

    Some of those are highly collectible & may cost quite a bit but then again all I know about that item is from what I saw on TV.

    I'll try and ask a guy I work with & see if he knows more about it.

    I have some references for military tokens, but I did not see any name of an organization of collectors. There was a list of names of those who contributed to the references, many of whom are authors themselves. If you wish, I can PM you some of their names if you wish to contact some individuals who are more knowledgeable with this sort of thing.

    I agree with the sentiment that to find one on your own will be extremely difficult. To find such a specific item, you will need to contact those dealing and collecting military tokens and medals.

    if you could pm any of them that would be great. the one i have has a hole in the top where it was hooked to a chain around my grandfathers neck.

    that is it. the hole in the one i have is original. that one looks mass produced. would love to get a hold of one of those if anyone knows where. an original not that one.
