I am just looking at a few ancient coins that I am in posession of. I am completly new to ancients so I know next to nothing about them. I am nearly certain this one is Antonius Pius, but other than that I know nothing. If someone can help me I would apreciate it.:smile

I googled and googled for nearly a week and I couldn't find a match to the reverse to save my life. But I guess it may help if you have some idea to what your looking for.

Antoninus Pius sestertius. I can't read the reverse legends though, so it'll be a good deal of sorting through images/descriptions to get the precise ID. I'll leave that to stainless. :D

Sure, but talking of roman ancient coins, as a difference with modern coinage, engraving was not standardized (even for standards ), so if the description coincides, admitting some little differences, the reference will be the same.
Portrait seen "from front/from behind", or "one standard/two standards" would surely be different types, where the position of the victory up or down wouldn't make difference. Hoping what I write makes sense :eek:hya::eek:hya:

Thanks again for your help! But what denomination would you call it? Its 4mm thick.

As Ardatirion wrote above, it's a sestertius. What's its weight ?

As I said in a previous post, I am kicking myself for it, I left my scales at my shop about 40 miles away and I won't be there again untill tomorrow. I will let you know tomorrow.

Heres a little better scan of the reverse. Hope I don't sound a little crazy ( I just want to get most of the facts right) It looks different from the second one. Compare the pics and do you think it would classify as the same one?

No problem about scales, we'll wait until tomorrow :kewl:

I would say they are the same type, if obverse and reverse legend, and bust description are the same. The reverse allegory, IMHO, is the same on both examples
