Just a quick question for those who know their 2 cent coins. I received my first ever 2 center today courtesy of Arizona Jack and the first thing I noticed is that the typical "coin turn" between obverse and reverse is not apparent. The reverse is way out of alignment as opposed to the obverse. Is this typical of two cent pieces?
I think it may be normal, My 2 cent has about a 10% rotated die. How far off is yours? Again, Nice Coin you have there!
Thanks guys...... Jack, I probably could have asked you that in an e-mail but I think the exposure of such a particular quality to a particular coin is important to point out. I just took it for granted these coins were oriented in the traditional coin turn manner.
Green: They are oriented in the 'traditional' manner, however improper alignment of dies caused the rotations, and it is common on copper of the era.
Thanks Frank. Hey hurry up and sign those books. Whitman says that's what's holding up my order (LOL).
As others have said (and I said in your other thread) -- die rotation is common on coins of this era and while I would stop short of calling a 90 degree rotation "normal", even a 90 degree rotation will carry little to no premium in my experience. Still makes it kind of neat though!
