I'm pretty sure it is illegal to deface a coin. Whether someone has come after him for it is another issue altogether. It's probably not worth the effort by law enforcement unless he is passing these defaced coins off as money. I think once they're defaced, they become collectibles and nobody who owns them should try to circulate them.
in 70+ years no one has bothered to go after anyone? Really? Put some common sense into that and see what comes out.
Huh? You said in post #36 it has been litigated. How can it have been litigated if no one has bothered to go after anyone? Still waiting on that legal citation.
You don't believe me or the other hobo collectors, try the US government; http://www.treas.gov/education/faq/coins/portraits.html#q13
There are people that collect coins similar but I must agree those are all creepy but it's not against Ebay policies. But I do think that this guy's stuff is tacky & yeah it seems he has some fetish that would alarm a lot of people. But then again I've heard of Malls kicking a store out because they sold Gargoyles. No this one is less tacky but they don't sell for much. *sigh*. Ok even tried to give it away since I have 1/2 dz. Darn I can't recall were but I read that they repealed that law. Besides it is to difficult to enforce.
