Just rec'd 5 sets of the new Lincoln 2 roll penny mint sets. They are absolutely hideous. Big scratches, spots, and on one the 'VDB' initials are scratched off, and you see the grey zinc. I haven't even opened the rolls, these are the top coins. Can't send them back because they're sold out. Terrible, the rolls I get from banks are 10 times better.

IMO If I were you those rolls would have been on eBay the first second I got them :D. The prices are crazy, especially for the mint rolls right now.

Sorry, I'm not a good pic taker, or I would. All the coins where the obverse is top coin are a joke. Half inch long scratches. Plus I noticed grey on one coin, took a closer look the copper coating was worn right off, this same coin at the left bottom, where the 'VDB' initials are supposed to be are completely missing ,no copper, just grey zinc. I would spend them, if the store would even take them, they look terrible. I'll put them on feebay with full disclosure.

    What to do...What to do?

Great to hear the US Mint is screwing us again. After all my ranting that these coin'll be common enough soon enough, I ordered a roll of each (back ordered) because I figured I'd get one roll of each design ,P & D, and that'd be it. I'm also getting the Mint sets and the 2 proof sets which have the Bronze cents that I really wanted.

Well. I could cancel, or just hope mine are better than those described by the op. But then again, he only saw 2 coins. Oh, What am I to do now with my $9 ($1) worth of pennies? Maybe I'll donated them to charity and take a huge tax write-off.:goofer: Or throw them in a wishing well, or the fountain of youth (If I could find it). Hey, I could just spend them and the whole world would benefit. :rolling::rolleyes: That would be the altruistic thing to do.

:yawn:When I wake up from this dream, I'll tell you what happens. :p ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz

We got some rolls at work and had to pay a premium for them but have to admit they were nice. D mint only but at least we have some for sale.

So maybe the OPs are a fluke. Now want to get some real ugly coins order Kennedy halfs by the bag. I sorted the mixed bag and doubt I saw a handful of MS63 coins let alone higher.

Is the U.S. Mint an actual mint or an order by mail garbage supplier these days? Getting hard to tell.

Maybe they were just damages from the wrap rolling process? I got some from the bank with parts of the end coins having stripped copper, which showed some of the zinc.

I just ordered a P and D roll from Mintproducts.com for $7.99 a roll plus shipping. They aren't mint wrap which what I usually buy, but that's ok. At least I got 2 rolls. Less than the mint was charging. I hope my ends are good.

The mint was charging $8.95 for two rolls, or less than $5 each, plus shipping.

Bruce, why not put them up on eBay in the unopened box, and get 5-10 times what you payed?
