Creating a Display for a Major show!!

Hello friends,

I was wondering if any of you have ever created a display for a Paper Show before?
From what I have seen in the past, notes have been placed in small glass cases and stacked upon each other. I was thinking about attempting to build a display for the 2010 Baltimore Paper Money show to have the NY Collection on disply there....big dream of mine LOL
Since some notes are raw and most are graded..it would appear odd to say the least...so I am asking for your thoughts on a way to do it without having 30 small cases..LOL

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.:secret:

u know how cards are placed in a casino at the dealers? u could try that. i usually deals with stacks so its fun to arrange them like that

but u may want to think this ur collection is by far the best for NY notes what would u want people to see. remember this also that u r creating a market for ur notes in the future. best of luck

 

Security would be my number 1 concern for this endeavor! Lexan plexiglass or even somethgn stronger would be my choice. Possibly evenmostly wood, with a glass top. or even steel with a glass top .. seeing a theme with these ideas?

I woul think about placing them face up, side by side, with a header label with info about each note - FR#, mintage if known, what makes the note the grade it is, a little history about the design ect

man do i wish i coul attend that show!!!! i would be in heaven to see you whole collection at once!

 

yes...security...make sure they are locked down tighter than scrooges coinpurse.

 

with no disrespect to anyone the only collection that i would buy if it was ever sold would be Rickie's truly top notch stuff

Thanks for the input....as you both know it is not finished by a long shot...I had them all laid out on the basement floor this weekend trying to imagine how it would look. It will need to be big to say the least.
Daggarjon...with your idea of plexiglass, perhaps cut in smaller sizes I could rivet on piano hinges so it would be expandable and easier to carry?

Attaching the notes is a big how to right now....LOL

Thanks for the input thus far and DJ..it is always possible to make that show...free airline tickets are a big plus...LOL

could you not back it with some sort of cork board covered in fabric and pin the plastic sleeves to it without damaging the notes? or maybe that's too ghetto for a high end collection and a high end show....just a thought

or how about velcro? could you work something out with the plastic sleeves and velcro? that way they could be easily removed and viewed from both sides, and easily put back on?

I am flattered but there are many collections that would put mine to shame ya know??
Ohh and the collection would "not be for sale" until my Son decided that about 20 years from now...LOL

Thank you for the input...I really would not want to punch any holes in the slabs by any means...I was thinking that little dab of the clearadhesive that comes on most things today..peels right off.

Velcro would be an option to consider, yes!! Thanks..

All raw notes would be in mylar as well...

Not all of them...I was in process of that but PCGS sorta of ticked me off some...

be careful while packing unpacking attaching or whatever.....

most of the damage happens then and if ur tired at any point call it quits for then

with your collection u can afforsd to miss the flight and pay for the ticket but u cant afford it if u damamge something. i am still crying hoarse about my antique that went kaput over 20 years ago

Rickie, how about big picture frames? Or if you find a good background you could make rails that you could slide the bills in slabs down into.
Try Micheal's craft store. I used to collect matchbox cars and had a rack that the cards would slide into holding them tight against the board.

Picture frames would be a little more safe as no one could just grab and go with your bills. The only downside would be you could only display one side, but then you could have a frame with a rail in it so you couls slide two glass panes into the frame. I know a picture frame consultant who might be able to help you, very creative person, I could put the problem to him.

That's a neat idea...you could take it one step further and mount it like an old chalkboard, so that it rotates?

 

Put it on a painters easel...

 

RickieB, i would take a walk though a Michaels craft store, or a custom frame shop, as well as looking online for what dealers of cases can do and what they have for sale. I am sure there are lots of ways to afix a slab to a backer and make them solid, but not being in that business my self, i cant imagien exactly how its done or how to do it and make it look good!
