Has anyone ever had one of those days where you bought something and couldn't stop thinking about it. And there you lay, all snug in bed and can't sleep because you can't stop thinking about your new toy? Well that is me right now. 3AM and still can't sleep. Call me crazy, but I am excited. Most auctions I go to I usually don't buy anything or if I do buy something, I usually have buyers remorse a few hours later, but not today.....at least not yet anyway. :hammer: :D

Today I landed four items that I needed. No pics yet.... sorry gang...its 3am and although I can't sleep, I can't see straight either! :goofer:

Landed an original 1955 Proof set in the box. Everything was still intact as the day it was sent out. Staple was not rusted or anything. Slight toning on the Half, quarter and dime, but in all, everything looks like the day it was sent from the mint. No frosting on the half.

Then I purchased a gorgeous 1909 UNC Lincoln. It would probably be considered a red/brown - but more toward the red side of things with a wonderful green and yellow and orange toning on both sides.

Next was 1936 Texas comm. Can I say anything more? Gorgeous.

Lastly, a 1949D UNC Franklin half - allegedly full bell lines, but I don't think so. But I got it for a steal.

Anyway, thank you for letting me rant/brag for a moment. Nothing super big like a 1909S VDB or anything like that, but still coins that I needed and wanted and all for a decent price. The auction was the most packed that I had seen in a long time. I guess the economy isn't hurting people too much. You know all us West Virginian's hide our money under our mattresses!

Thanks Bruce!!! And check this out....how often does this happen??? My wife gave me the money to buy the coins! I guess she felt bad because I had been cooped up in this house for the past two months without stepping a foot in the coin store and she wanted me to buy something nice. It was a good feeling to be missed down at the shop also. Everyone thought I just fell off the planet. Every day I used to visit them, even if it were for a few minutes and then BAM! Cold Turkey. No coin shop for nearly two months. Not to mention that during this time that someone died with a very similar name as mine and they all thought it was me. I had seen the shop owner at a coin show a month back and he was the one who told me about it. I even dragged a buddy of mine out who says that it had been 15 years since he last came to this auction......and after today..... he will probably never go again. :hammer Not all people like that kind of stuff. Anyway, thanks again for listening to my rant. I am now going to try and get some sleep. I am spending the day with the inlaws, and although I don't drink, I may take it up tomorrow. :goofer: Happy Easter Everyone! The Lord has Risen!

Calm down bud, many of us have the same symtoms.

Sounds like you reached out for some primos. Comfort yourself in knowing that many of the top collectors and builders of great world class sets had the same butterflies as you are having.

Cheers on the new pickups !!!!!

WOW! I wish I could have been more like you last night. Finally went to bed at 4am after I kicked the dogs out of the bed.

    Pictures will be forthcoming.

If it is alright with you, Can you tell us what price you stole the coins for?

Jacer, its happened to me too. It is perfectly normal if you have a hobby you are passionate about, like we all are about coins. You are not alone!

Well I wont mention exact price, I will tell you how I bid. Using a grey sheet, I take whatever the bid price is for the item and reduce it by 20% or I take the grade price for the item and then drop it down a grade, then I take off 10-20% off that price to come up with a range that I am willing to bid. Will I bid over... absolutely if I really want something, but I most often will pass on something rather than dump the money. It took me many years, but I have finally learned that you can usually find the same item for the same price or better later on.

I got the best deal on the Franklin, followed by the Texas comm. I paid closer to bid prices on the 09 Lincoln and the 54 proof set. Even though I don't plan on reselling my coins, I always try to buy coins as if I were going to resell them. This is my way of assuring that I am building immediate value in the coins. Its like buying a home closer to appraised value than one that is not. The system works for me..... as long as I stick to it. :kewl:

    Been there, Felt that

I get very excited when I see something I like and which I can afford. If I think I am spending too much on the coins and don't want to feel remorse, I buy it the next day after a night's sleep. It tends to purge my head out of excitement and there on it's just simple math.
I guess you can't do that at an auction :)

Here are two of the coins. Have you ever bought a coin and it looks good in hand, then get it back to photograph it and whamo! There is something there that can't be seen by the naked eye? Well this is the story with the Texas comm. Still really nice in hand. The Franklin is nice and it was sold as FBL although, I didn't buy it for that reason. After looking at it some more under better light, all the lines are there and they are intact. Could go FBL, but nice coin otherwise. I will post the other two sets later. Too sleepy now.
