I find little time these days to join a organization such as Kiwanis, Shriners, etc., to give back to my community. But I'm good with children and seniors and thought I might be able to start an elementary school coin club to try and bring todays generation of children into a worthwhile endeavor instaed of watching them waste countless hors a day in fron t of the TV playing video game. Can anyone help lead me to any organizations that might help me secure coin folders, 2x2's and othe misc. supplies? I'm not looking for new items, just maybe some used folders and such to get things off to a start. Any help, links or other imfo would be humbly appreciaited. Thankyou very much.:high5:

I can get you some of the presidential coin cards. They are cardboard look like bookmarks but heavier duty. They hold the 4 that are minted that year. I think we have 2007 and 2008 at work. That and some state quarter ones that I think are just for the one year each too. I posted about some of the larger folders that have all the state quarter slots that we have and thought about seeing if we could give them to the kids that come into the bank. Don't have a certain answer yet but today I was cleaning and organizing my vault and came across these smaller cards and have SEVERAL that I thought about trashing today brand new that I can send to you.

That would be so very much appreciated. If you find that the others you are not sure of are also available I would could use all you can supply. If you send at the media rate that would be cheapest for you, and, of course I will mail back a check for all your costs. Thanks so much for the reply and we will keep in touch on this?! Tom P.S How may I send you an address?

Are you an ANA member? If so, check with them about 'Coins in the Classroom'. (I'm not sure but they have put CITC on hold for now until they get their budget under control.)

I'm not an ANA member Hobo but thanks for the tip. I might just join if it's feasible. One of the reasons I'm asking for possible donations is I'm single and still supporting a disabled 26 year old son so funds have been tight for a long while. But sincere thanks to you and any help from anyone else. Tom

    A couple of suggestions...

    1) Is there a "grownups" coin club in your area? If so, they might already have an auxiliary group for young numismatists. If not, they might be interested in the idea and be willing to help.

[Editorial Comment: Unfortunately, we live in a society where any outreach to children may be viewed as "suspect". Having an established organization behind you adds credibility, but you may be prepared for some very pointed questions as to your motives from some non-trusting individuals.]

    2) The US Mint makes a fair amount of educational material available at no charge.

    3) Scout organizations might be a place to start since they have merit badges (or whatever they call them) for coin collecting.

    4) Elementary schools sometimes look for speakers and special programs and that might be a place to start also. A quick query to the local school district would give some sense of how interested they might be in a program.

    I've talked with Peter re-

    This is in the works.

I've talked with Peter re-this and I had good response so I'm going to try and revive this soon when I can get some of the parameters started.

Here is the thread - I just need more time to get it started. Maybe next week.
    below is the original thread,

Peter -could we do something for the kids?
Peter -could we do something for the kids each year or month or whatever. Now hear me out for a second,
Does Coin Talk have anything set up to further numismatics for youth groups, youth coin clubs or scout troops as of yet?
If not may I make a suggestion? Could we set up some kind of collection each month, or quarter, or year for Coin Talk Members to donate coins for distribution to youth groups? Also I don't mean for you to be the one to take on anymore work - I would do it but the philanthropy would be from Coin Talk as an online group solely. I would want some help and oversight also, that would only be fair and this certainly may need some fleshing out additionally first. Lets put our money (coins) where our mouths are and set up something to both further numismatics and this online resource. If the rest of the folks on here are like me they always have a few wheat cents or Buffalo's around that they would be willing to donate and we could track it all right here as time goes on I think.
    What do you think???

I have broad shoulders, so to speak, and can handle suspicion and I fully understand why some folks might be suspicious. I would be also. Our society is filled with scammers unfortunatly. My intentions are true though and I would be willing to send anyone a real address to resond to and not a P.O. Box. I would also send a reciept for items that were to be sent before they are sent to alleviate the fear factor, pay all shipping costs involved, etc. I'm not looking for coins though as I believe this would further the suspicion. I would enlist the aid of the parents for this.
Unfortunatly I live in a very rural area and the nearest coin club would be 35 miles away. Not a large distance but I will look into that suggestion also. I did see that the mint offers some help but these items appear aimed at banks for promo purposes. i might also try Freecycle to obtain items I need like albums and books and magazines. Thankyou for all the suggestions so far. Tom :high5:

You can PM it to me. I don't need to be reimbursed for the postage. This isn't a big deal and something I wanted to do and wouldn't have offered if I didn't want to. I will get right on it Monday!
