Ok, we have all had our say in the State Quarter program. How about something interesting on the next round of quarters. Musicians. ie... Michigan could have Motown, The Whackmaster Ted, Bob Seger or Kid Rock. Hawaii - Don Ho. <--- obvious choice Mississippi - Elvis Tennessee - would require two quarters. Dolly Parton. and so on. Who would be the person for your state?
I lean the other direction. I like more dignified stuff on my coins, stamps, bills. Not so much Mickey Mouse/ consumer society stuff.
I think we just need to go back to nice, majestic depictions of Liberty that last 25 years then are changed. I'm tired of circulating commemoratives.
As it appears that all US designs are kind of going through a renaissance of sorts and coming out as commemoratives, I agree with copper. Let's go back to a static design emblematic of liberty for the next 25 years and the change them again. We could have fun redesigning all of our coinage, we could remove the dead president motif, and head off this current commemorative trend before it outstays it's welcome like the commemorative program of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Why don't we have beautiful coins anymore? Why don't we have beautiful coins anymore? I for one am so bored with State Quarters and modern commemoratives plus buillion that I could puke, right here right now. Now Carl and Brooklyn and everyone I'll be good but the door was opened. When I look at a classic coin say a AU-58 1959 Indian Cent or a Oregon Commemorative Fifty Cent and think what has happened? I was so bored by the time I put Hawaii in my book I could have cried. The last truly artistic coins were designed by Elizabeth Jones, poor old Frank Gasparro never stood a chance next to her. How did we go from classic beautiful coins to tokens that look like they came from Chucky Cheese??? I just don't get it! You see I was good - I did not mention once how ugly I think Roosevelt's, Eisenhower's, SBA,'s and the worst of all the Sac's and Presidential Dollars are not to mention Kennedy's and Franklin's! OHHH, I bet you guys have perked up now??????? Ben is back!! - No not really, well sort of I just had to have a modern coin bashing episode, I'm so sorry but feel much better now. Thanks! You didn't expect me to reform overnight did you? If you give me one modern coin bash plus a Third Party Grading bash each week I'll be satisfied, I think
With all respect to the idea, I wouldn't be on board with this. I think the state quarters were a master stroke and I'm intrigued by the parks quarters, but I think after that they need to reintroduce a standard quarter and fine novelty elsewhere. If they push this too far, things will start to feel watered down. And musicians just don't seem befitting a coin. Coins are for statesmen/women in my humble opinion (though commemoratives are more flexible I think).
Gang, Cmon here. This was simply a tongue in cheek idea. I would NOT like to really see this happen, Take this for what it was meant to be. A Parody of where we are with modern coins in general. Quarters, Nickels, Cents, Dollars.. Need I say more? I just wanted to see the different ideas from the different states for musicians. Geez. Arizona - How about AJ playing the eukalale singing Tip Toe though the Tulips?
Good question. I think a lot of it has to do with the people in charge of design from the first sketches to the commities who approve are blockaded with beurocracy, red tape, and political agendas. That makes for lousy coins, and always has, far longer than just the past 10 years. I say they change the quarter design every year with something that isn't boxed in with strict guidelines. Let the artists be artists. But, I think we can do with just one quarter a year, not five. Guy~
Oh, ok...in that case, just for you, Jim. CA is a tough state to just pick one. Jim Morrison would be cool. Or Jerry Garcia. There's just too many to choose from. Guy~
