I know one is missing the copper coat, the other 2 are different shades of copper/bronze.all 3 came from the same roll...can anyone shed some light on what is going on here? 20210126_155901.jpg 20210126_155821_HDR.jpg

Woah, you got an unplated 2020D cent from a roll?
Can we get better close up pictures of that one?

just discoloration. one was a little more toned than the other. most older BU wheat cents look more copper like that but if you dip them, they turn brighter. but that missing copper one is really cool

Were these out of a bank wrapped roll?
To me, it looks like you have a genuine unplated cent.
Do you have a scale to weigh it?

Yep, when my bank got new rolls of quarters in I bought em hoping for some West Points...I did get all 5 by the way. I got 20$ worth of pennies only one roll had anything of interest in it. The scale I have isn't accurate enough but have one on order. I have a few 1982 small date pennies I need to weigh

Well, I'm no expert, but I do think you have something in that cent.
As for the coloring on the other 2, I don't think that it is much of a difference to be worth while.

Appreciate the response...the camera really doesn't show the same difference my eyes see....it looks pre 82 in color...maybe I'll try more pics after dinner. I just like having a set of 3 different color 2020 pennies...the fact that it came from the same roll was very odd to say the least!

I've gone through probably at least 100 boxes of brand new cents. Never have I found an unplated cent. Just sayin.

I know I haven't seen one come out of a roll in over 20 years...a manager pulled 3 out of a roll at the restaurant I used to work at...she wouldn't give them up though. I guess I got lucky lol

Those look normal to me. I've seen plenty of color variation in brand new cents.

That's just boxes of solid date coins lol.
I just finished box 746 last night. That doesn't count the solid date boxes or the bags that I've searched :p

Your only issue is whether it's plated over. That's the only thing that can beat it down. It looks real good in those pictures for the "McCoy," as they say. If it is, I've never even seen a picture of one, let alone found one roll-searching, so I'd agree, it's pretty darn uncommon. Thanks for showing.

OP's doesn't look to be plated. Looks to still have that "mint luster". Though, that's why asked for a weight.

Yeah, I agree. She should know her only issue, that's the only reason I said.

I need better photos of the unplated cent. I am going with plated until I can prove otherwise. I have literally seen dozens of these.

Really? I've seen plenty of plated cents as well as those that have had the copper layer removed. Never have I seen one like OPs.
