You inherited a large collection, didn’t you? So you were like thrown in the deep end of the pool and never had a swimming lesson?.... If I am thinking right, maybe you are just feeling a little overwhelmed with it all.... Yeah, you have all kinds on the forum but one thing that this forum is loaded with is some incredible coin knowledge. Maybe put it all out of sight and pick one series... Say Buffalo nickels for example and ask specific questions about the series. Once you gain a little knowledge, then you may start to get a feel for the pieces that may have some value.... If you are just throwing out pieces at random, yeah I most imagine it would feel disheartening to be told over and over that it may not have the value you expected...... They say there is only one way to eat an elephant..... And that is one bite at a time.
Online message boards arent for everyone. That holds true for every message board in existence on any random topic.
I actually have more $ in fishing gear than guns. Coins, I have nothing. Although I sold all of my guns a few years ago to Gary. He seemed nice, had valid ID.
Someone to guide me in the the direction other than the scrap yard. I wouldn't change a thing, seems like you folks have it right on, for what you do. This is a site for someone who deals in coins all day. Not for someone like me who just got a bunch dumped in his lap. When I say a bunch, I mean a bunch. It would take me years to go through. I posted a few of some I have had the opportunity to come across, and even though I know they aren't worth much for the most part, very little help from you "experts". Snub nose comes to mind. Crazy many of you don't drown when it rains. That is all.
Take them all to a local coin shop and take whatever they offer. Nobody here is going to spend the time to catalog, grade, and price your inherited coins for you.
How about a reflect on what this site is about? Is is about showing the better coin than the other? Is is about spreading the word regarding coin collecting? Or, is it about seeing what you have over what the guy next door has? Good people with coins, or just putting down that don't have the coin you covet? Huge forum, and yet the vast majority doesn't post. Why is that? Ruled by a few and pew the rest? Sometimes folks need to look inward to find themselves and realize they really aren't the shizzle. This site isn't it for that self inflection. Get ahold of yourselves. Go big on someone else.
That would be a great thing to do if I had a local coin shop. Woulda been done a long time ago. I suppose you live in a populated area with coin shops all over. Thanks for the advice, dead center in the wheelhouse for this site.
You have not been on this site long enough to understand anything but you are really good at being a jerk. Stop insulting this site and go somewhere you will be happy.
It's a site to show finds and educate. It's possible to learn what you can about coins and places to go find values as well as how to grade coins. It's not a site to show coin after coin, asking what it's worth. You can find that information on your own. I suggest you do that if you only want to insult the members here. Difficult to get help if you're on ignore due to insulting everyone.
No matter what the area of interest (coins, stocks etc.). It takes many years of study, decades, to understand anything. If you think you are going to come on here and figure it all out in a week it just doesn't work that way.
Be excited about someone nice enough to gift you these coins. Stay the course. Act like the grasshopper and learn from the wise. Sure whom ever gave you these coins. The purpose was to enjoy them and the hobby. So cool
