I just today got in mail my order for 2009 lincoln unc silver dollar, Question is should I open box that coin came in or leave in box?, and then years down the line it will be worth alot still in box unopen? What would you do keep in box and maybe be worth untold riches or open box and see If US MINT send right coin. Was thinking flip a coin and heads up open box, tails down leave in box :rolling:

nice riddle you got there. but how often does the mint send the wrong coins in the box? i woud say ods are in your favor the right coins are in there. Now the question is do you gamble the box will be worth more unopened 10 years downthe road. I dont buy my coins to gamble - i would certainly open it and enjoy them:)

I would open it unless you wanted it slabbed 1st strike. If so, send it in box and all.

Opening the box is the only logical choice. Let's say you keep it in the box with the aim of selling it later on at a premium.

Now you're the buyer, and you've just bought a box. You can either open the box, in which case you've wasted whatever extra value is associated with the unopened box (value you've just paid for in the form of a higher cost), or you can sit and wonder whether you've been cheated in any way. Not an attractive situation for a buyer.

I've purchased three of every presidential dollar first day of issue coins. I opened the first box, which presented three white boxes as well as the packing slip and a mailer. I've decided not to open those boxes, which include a P code (eg. P21, P22, etc.) and put them into a 1-gallon zip lock bag with the invoice and the US mailer. Since I've already seen the coins in circulation and also seen the proof coins in the mint sets, I've figuring that the unopened white box may add it value. I've noticed that it seems to work for the 1955 proof sets. Being a collector and not a seller, this whole thing doesn't make any sense but I'm doing it anyway. I'm an enigma!!
