Wow... I never knew there was such a thing. That's a bit of a somber piece.

These were certified by Collectors Universe when owned by PCGS.

Were the actual ASEs recovered or was it bullion that was
recovered from the site and ASEs were made from the recovered
    bullion?

The ASEs, along with a lot of other stuff that was in the vaults. Interesting, but not worth the premium they want. Like shipwreck coins.

They were actual ASE's in a fault. Send for grading and a special label.

There are a lot of coins recovered from the vaults of the World Trade Center.
I have one also. You can find some on eBay usually.

That is one from the first group that were holdered by Collectors Universe. They have no grades and do not have the PCGS hologram on the back of the slab. Without checking my records I believe these were ONLY ASE's. Later batches were slabbed by PCGS, did have grades and holograms. These had ASE's and other gold and silver coins, bars, and I believe a few platinum pieces. There are also some batches that carried notices such as 1 of 2001 (or some other number). Many sellers tried to sell these as the #1 piece but EVERY coin in the group was labeled 1 of XXX. And when the supplier would run out they would just submit another batch creating another bunch of 1 of XXX slabs.

As I stated above this one was done by Collectors Universe. You can see the hologram label on the reverse. If you look at the lower right obverse you can see PCGS on the case. Collectors Universe was owned by PCGS during this time frame.

Other way around, Collectors Universe owned PCGS. Corporate used PCGS shells, PCGS had no say in the matter. And although it really doesn't matter these CU slabs are not covered under the PCGS guarantee.

Hi just stumbled on these posts, I do know they grade AGE's but I do not think very many were done, BTW several do have grades, the reason why I know this is I have one ... I have a lot of WTC AGE'S but not with the C.U. Holograms, so they must be extremly rare :)

In 2018, when one is terminated from a company CU, how can one still be affiliated with PCGS?
