Between all the mint marks, privy marks, and finishes, what's the over/under on the number you'll need for a full set?

Not sure I can count that high. The mint has different standards then I do.

I mostly stick to ancients but I do like Peace Dollars. Am I to understand that these will be .999 silver instead of the .900 of the originals? Will these be the same size and design as the originals?

Well from this article we know there will be at least 5, and from earlier reports they did mention proofs so I would expect at least one proof for each so that would make a likely count of 7.

I'll take the over, even if you meant it's 7 for each type.

My US coins collections all end at 1964.
Once the US Govt did away with silver in their business strikes I lost interest.
Yeh, I know, the Kennedy's were silver (but only 20%) through 1970.

The mint will do as in the past which is to make to many versions of the same coin for no good reason. I can see a mint state version and a proof version for each type. I just saw something about them honoring the Carson City mint and the New Orleans mint with a privy mark. So that's 6 coins right there. Then a possible reverse proof. If they want to really do it right the Carson City mint, New Orleans mint and the old San Francisco mint (Granite Lady) buildings are still standing what about bringing a coin press to each of those locations and only mint them at those locations. I know it will never happen but, it's just a thought. I can just imagine the excitement that firing up a press at Carson City Mint would do for the Morgan dollar collectors. What I would do is sell the mint state versions like they sell the Silver American Eagles. I think it would be neat to be able to buy them by the roll.

There is still an original Carson City press in operation at the Carson City Mint (now a museum). However it only mints souvenir coins.

Well, whatever you think is right, just multiply that by a two-digit number of your choice to arrive at the number of variations Mike Mezack will conjure up for his TV shows.

You beat me to the correction Spark. The mint sure left us in wonder, oh well we'll know the exact answers soon enough. Thanks for the post potty dollar.

The 1921 Peace dollar was only struck at Philadelphia so I wouldn't expect D or S coins for the 2021 Peace. So it seem most reasonable we would get
    Morgan
    2021
    2021 D
    2021 S
    2021 CC privy
    2021 O privy
2021 proof, not sure which mint. Philadelphia would make the most sense since all the other Morgan proofs were struck there.

    Peace
    2021
2021 proof, once again the Philadelphia mint makes the most sense for this.

    Hmmm I can't count, that makes 8.

Now like I said this is the most reasonable, but they aren't always reasonable. Who knows we may get other finishes as well

At one point the plan was to strike CC coins on that press. I don't believe it was in the final law

Some type of reverse proof? I would personally like a West Point mint and marked Morgan I think it would be a cool given that Morgan were struck and every mainland US mint that struck silver coins.

But West Point never struck any of the original Morgan dollars, so it really wouldn't be appropriate to have a 2021 W coin.

Yes I was aware of that. They use it to honor the mint last year. Of course they wrecked by stamping the coins with the word copy on them even though they struck at the old mint. I felt if they put a current date on the coin and sold it as a commemorative it would have been great. I'm sure they could have gotten some type of authorization to strike the coins. It was a nice idea anyway. However, I don't think they would want to use the old press to strike millions of dollars. They would need to bring in a modern press.

will the mints computer system including their phone system melt down again? has anyone heard news that more people will get a chance at getting some of these coins? i wasn't one of the few lucky people to get the ASD's released not long ago that just melted the commutations at the mint
