I go to a small coin shop in my area ihave been buying IKE dollar coins from 1972 - 1976 for $ 1.30 each, they have one shelf full of them , also whwat penny rolls for $1.30 dollar each . Ihave bought about five of them.
    1973 1971 1971-D 1978-D 1976 1978-D THEY APPEAR TO BE IN VG CONDITION .Also have bought 4 wheat rolls, at $2.00 each , finding mid 1920s - late 40s.
    Are thes fair purchase prices?

I would say fair. But that depends on how much you enjoy them.

I couldn't help myself, sorry in advance.

The prices your paying are not bad but what are you going to do with those Ikes? I'd say if you got about 500 and put them in a cloth sack, well you know boating season is just around the corner and they would make a good anchor or door stop.
If you are new, I'm just having fun. I've been very good since Friday and I just could not resist - they all know how I feel about Ikes, SBA's, State Quarters, modern high graded stuff, oh and Franklin's almost forgot about them.
Heck if you like em go for it!

Yes I would say your doing OK. Those Ike dollars USED to be available at any banks not to long ago for face prices. Then all of a sudden they kind of vanished from banks. Evey at coin shows they are about $1.50 each now. So for those your doing really good. As for rolls of pennies, that is OK but no big thing. I'm sure those were searched and searched and researched. $2/roll is OK but nothing unusual unless you really do find something.

The Ikes are a good price assuming they are in decent shape. THe thing now it to search through them and see if you have any varieties like the FEV's.

You did about average on the Ikes with the exception of the 1973. I'm surprised no one else seems to have caught that one. The 1973 issues were not made for circulation and could only be gotten from the mint sets, so that one was a better piece and I think you did well on it. I would expect the conditon is also better than VG. The Ikes, especially on the obv, did not have a lot of fine detail and a lightly worn piece could easily be taken for a lower grade if you aren't experienced at grading.

    Ben,

What the heck are Franklin Half Dollars doing on that list. Besides, IKE's are not all bad, especially if they look like this.

I actually have a rule with my 20th century type set. Either the coin has to be rainbow toned or it can be a top pop untoned coin. This one is the latter. The Peacock Ikes basically ruined this series for toning for me.

Franklin's and Ike's remind me of

Franklin's and Ike's remind me of of a coinage design nightmare just like Roosevelt's and Susan B's.

I tell you what, now be honest put a Walking Lib Half, Standing Lib Quart. and Mercury Dime, and a Buffalo Nick down on the table then next to it put a Franklin, SBA, Roosevelt and an Ike next to them. Leave them there for a year and ask everyone that comes over to tell you what coin is the most beautiful - if anyone picks even one coin from the second group you can be assured that they had a childhood trauma of some kind.
What I am really trying to say (now I'm still being good, It's Monday) is to go from classic U.S. coinage that was beautiful to the latter group is like going from great, artistic, classic American designs to boring, ugly, too large dead historical peoples head shots and poorly designed reverses.
In other words there is no comparison at all between the 2 groups, none whatsoever.
It is just like beautiful coinage designs died in the mid to late 1940's and except for the Silver, gold, and platinum eagles and a very few commemoratives our coinage made for commerce is just plain ugly by comparison, there is no comparison.
But if you like them so be it, I'm just saying the coinage designs that were once so very beautiful are no longer and I'm surprised when anyone would willingly say those aforementioned modern coins have any beauty or class at all - my, have I not been so diplomatic lately.

I like Eisenhower dollars. And actually I don't like Walkers at all. I think on the half dollar it is an ugly design and I don't like how it was executed either. The eagle on the reverse is just weird.

That is your opinion, but your WRONG. There is a good market for Ikes and when you insult someone elses collecting preferences like you have it makes the other person feel bad.

Beauty, like everything else in life is in the eye of the beholder. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say they thought the Walking Lib was ugly though, oh well each to his/her own after all this America, thank goodness!
