I’m Svessien, and I’m a coinoholic. This week I told myself: «Ok, NO new ancient coins this week. Save it for next weekend.» Then I somehow talked myself into believing that perhaps a little Indian coin or two wouldn’t hurt. They’re not ancient, right? It’s about as intelligent as kicking your whisky habit with a bottle of gin.
I wonder if ancient people collected coin varieties like we do today. I'll bet the folks who made the dies kept their best examples.
I am def a coinaholic....i did online and went to local flea market and got 2 roman bronze and 3 "o" mint morgans and silver bullion coin.
Where did it all begin? Here I am in bed, but I don’t remember anything else. I feel these round metal objects all around me. Coins! Yes! That wild night at the computer. It’s all a blur. My head is swimming. I pick up one coin, but I can’t make out what it is. All I remember was hitting the “bid again” button. Frantically. Sweat streaming down my face. My fingers shaking and wet. Then what happened? Yes! The door bell rang. A special delivery of 500 coins that I won from another auction. The room is spinning. I tear open the box and dump the coins on the bed and stagger back to the computer. Oh no! Only 5 seconds before a lot closes! Hit the button! Hit the button! This is a disaster! I scream….then nothing but darkness
Numis History: Numisaddiction can be traced back at least 2000 years. It has traditionally been used in upper class societies, but has been observed among all social levels since the late 19th century. Instant effect, first 4-6 hours after consumption: A state of euphoria, increased heart rate, higher levels of dopamine and serotonine recorded in multiple studies. Tolerance: Frequently observed, but levels vary greatly for individuals. Some can feel content with medium doses (gVF) throughout a lifetime. Others go through levels of doses rapidly within the first year of use. Withdrawal: Frequently observed after higher doses (10% of monthly budget and higher). A state of anxiety and fear for the future, self-depreciation, or a shorter period of delusion or self-deceit. A visit by the mailman has been observed to have a moderating effect. Short term effects: An increased interest for historical detail at levels considered beyond sanity by 99% of the general population. Marital conflicts and a tendency towards keeping the usage hidden have been observed, but not as a rule. Some face private economic challenges in extreme cases. Long term effects: Increased memory and intelligence. Increased insight in history, politics and the fabric of society. A higher sense of purpose, eye for beauty and eye for detail. Rigid opinions about optimal usage frequently observed. Decreased usage of alcohol and/or drugs, due to lower need for escapisms, and no money left for humbug.
I think I am going to have to hit rock bottom before I get better....now I just got done bidding on AOL and DRAC coins...i cant stick between the lines
Is it normal to feel lots of these simultaneously? I am supposed to be saving for a grail purchase and yet I spontaneously bought 3 coins in the last couple of days I wasn't even planning on getting... It is hopeless... I should be saving for my kids and an uncertain future, what I am I doing???
There should be a 12-step program for coinaholics like us to decompress. Like with heroin addicts, the only remedy might be an ayahuasca trip.
I have actually done this. A few months back when it looked like I might end up jobless because of this damned plague, I went without coins for a month and collected Asterix books instead. As this crisis is far from over and my job future is still uncertain, I am planning to complete my Tin Tin books set when I will be in a dire need for some coin detox.
The knowledge you ancients collectors have is phenomenal. You have my deepest respect an hope that things will eventually get better for all of us. Thank you
I've added a lengthy initiation to any coin that joins my ancient collection so it stops me from adding too many at once (a governor of sorts). I'm not collecting them just to have a bunch of metal, I want to invest my time into each one. Sometimes I make spontaneous purchases, thinking I have a deal, but I've regretted [too strong of a word perhaps] many of those.
