This coin seems DD D mint mark and very clearly shows a clip on the president's jaw, from outside and inside! who knows these days anything could happen! I like to see your factual comments. In reverse doubling shows clearly in "D" in "UNITED" and "O" in "ONE".
I'm not seeing a Doubled Die, just wear from the Die and circulation. It does appear to me that there are slight blue tones which, in time, may become a very nice toner.
Hello. iI think you know the answer your going to get . Just imagine if it wasn't yours for a minute . I don't see any doubling based on pics provided . Even if there is , I suspect worthless doubling .
The pics aren't clear enough to make out the doubling. From your description, it's likely MD/DDD. The obverse "clip" looks like a reeded bag mark to me. Again, clearer pics would help.
hi Teran in the future if you would crop your pictures so that basically the coin itself is the only thing that shows. ive been trying to get better myself at taking close ups and ive learned a lot from reading posts here at CT so keep practicing, you will get it. i wish i could say i see what your seeing but i don't. good luck
@Teran ...please provide close-ups of the jaw, D and O. Ensure they are in-focus and try to mitigate the glare...I’m not seeing any doubling from the pics you posted...Spark
@Teran ...I’m trying to help you. Whatever you are using to take your pics should allow you to take close-ups. You need to learn how, or if your device doesn’t allow it, you need something else that does allow it. I agree with @eddiespin and @enamel7 that your coin seems to be nothing more than a normal dime. Without better pics, forum members can’t assess it properly, if what you are saying is there. Taking pictures with balanced lighting, not too strong, diffused is best to eliminate glare. Glare can and does mimic doubling. So try those things I mentioned and post again. 2018 is new enough that new varieties can still be discovered, so I won’t say it’s not there until you provide the better, close-up pics. Hear from you soon...imo...Spark
I personally believe that a new variety can be found on ANY coin, as long there are unregistered dies! But I do agree, closer pics required.
"these days anything could happen" - sorry, no. Beginning in 1999 all US coinage dies have been produced using single-squeeze hubbing. The traditional "doubled die" simply does not exist after that. There are cases where the die "skips" while being pressed into the hub, but as far as I know that kind of "doubling" is restricted to the center of the coin, like the ear on a Lincoln cent or around the center of the torch on a Roosevelt dime. Similarly, after 1994 the mint mark was put on the master, so you are not going to find an RPM on a 2018 dime either.
Thanks for your help. I am taking pictures with my iPhone, but after posting them, I am checking to see how they look and I see them pretty good and visible! But yes I have to go after other devices for this job to be done!
