Peter -could we do something for the kids each year or month or whatever. Now hear me out for a second, Does Coin Talk have anything set up to further numismatics for youth groups, youth coin clubs or scout troops as of yet? If not may I make a suggestion? Could we set up some kind of collection each month, or quarter, or year for Coin Talk Members to donate coins for distribution to youth groups? Also I don't mean for you to be the one to take on anymore work - I would do it but the philanthropy would be from Coin Talk as an online group solely. I would want some help and oversight also, that would only be fair and this certainly may need some fleshing out additionally first. Lets put our money (coins) where our mouths are and set up something to both further numismatics and this online resource. If the rest of the folks on here are like me they always have a few wheat cents or Buffalo's around that they would be willing to donate and we could track it all right here as time goes on I think. What do you think???
If such an endeavor would take place, I would be happy to be the clearing house/distribution point for them.
I currently run a program for my local scout group for coins as well as stamps. Not to beg but when the time comes any help would be greatly appreciated. Richard
I would be happy to donate some coins for our youth. Whether they be given away in here (CT) or to a local Scout Troop or wherever. I would be glad to be a part of it.
. . . I was interested to learn that Q. David Bowers apparently got into numismatics through scouts. In my case, though, there was just a regular monthly coin show going on up the block and I'd walk up to it Saturdays and buy worn out Lincolns cents to fill the blue folder.
I used to go to the PCGS coin forums a long time ago. They used to have YN giveaways. That went over fairly good except for the occational person pretending to be a YN just to get free stuff. Might be something to look into here. A thing for YN's.
This actually sounds like a pretty good idea. Maybe Peter or someone could take up a collection once a year including coins or maybe a max 5 or 10 bucks cash to purchase coins and have a YN giveaway annually in the contest forum. In another forum I'm in, if you pay in $25, you become a premium member which gets you a site logo under your username and it says "I support (The website abreviated), example "I support CT". And it gives you search function priviledges above other non-paying members. Which is really nice because that site has over 100k members and growing and the servers are always too bogged down for the search function to work. This would be a great cause if somebody wants to do it. Count me in for a donation.
Peter does offer a few small privileges to those who donate to CT. If you go to your user screen and scroll down to paid subscriptions, you can donate using your paypal account. There are some hidden portholes on here that Peter opens up.
how old are you t$? As far as I know, there's only a few kids on here. Of who I know: you, TheMan, freakygarret, Ryanbrooks, and me. I'm probably missing a couple. As for the idea, I like it
