Also what is first year of issue...I know it is way back! I think I saw 1892, are there ones older?

 

The first were issued in 1489. Sovereigns were a circulating coin until the 30's, if I recall correctly. They were later struck as bullion.

Is it better to get bullion versions, or circulating versions?

 

It depends on what type of collector you are. If you like bullion, then have a blast with it. But if you're like me and collect for the history and art, then get a circulated on. There's nothing like a nice EF gold piece.

I have NGC MS69 ASE's, but I like history too, 1912 $2.5 AU55.
So which go cheaper? OLder circulating at MS63+ or MS70 bullion
