The first were issued in 1489. Sovereigns were a circulating coin until the 30's, if I recall correctly. They were later struck as bullion.
It depends on what type of collector you are. If you like bullion, then have a blast with it. But if you're like me and collect for the history and art, then get a circulated on. There's nothing like a nice EF gold piece.
Okay... I lie both I have NGC MS69 ASE's, but I like history too, 1912 $2.5 AU55. So which go cheaper? OLder circulating at MS63+ or MS70 bullion
