I think this Campgate is my best cleaning job so far. I haven't been at this long, about 2 years. With this I was able to save almost all of the Silvering. Very difficult to do, in my opinion. Starting with a dirty, crusty unknown. Some comments, suggestions and opinion of final grade of the coin would be appreciated. Great job and a nice looking coin! Could you tell it had silvering before you started to clean it? How did you clean it? John
Thanks. I had no idea about the silvering when I started. In fact, I had only cleaned a couple with any silvering before. I used several soakings after a mild soap and water and light brushing. Soak in 40 Volume Peroxide, rinse and lightly brush. I had to use a diamond stylus very lightly several times along with the soaking. I think the key is the diamond stylus and extreme care. When I saw the silvering I went very slow.
No. I decided to do that some time back, but before this one. I wished I had but was very new at this.
Here is one I am working on that has before and after. It is typical of what I have been working with.
