My Wifes Great Uncle left me a few coins when he died and this is one of them. Wondered if anyone new what this would grade at. The dark spots on the front are shinny when you see it with the naked eye so not sure if its normal where from handling or if it has been cleaned. there is a very small nick up on the rim by the word states. This is the way I got it. It was wraped up in a tissue and in a little old metal pill box. Also would it be worth sending off to get graded. Thanks for all info
IDK, if you want it graded AU55 Is about $230, MS60 is about $260 Your coin looks uncleaned, and very nice. I'd say in the AU55-MS61 range for this coin
Clearly the coin is circulated; maybe AU50 sharpness. A nice strike in a series known for poor strikes. As for the semi-circular marks around the lower left part of the obverse, my guess is this piece was used in jewelry and those marks were left by the bezel. In any case, those marks means it will not pass muster at any real TPG. Don't submit it.
900fine do not submit it remark I response to 900fine remark when he said not to submit it. Does he mean it will get rejected or is not worth the money to have it graded
It might not be worth the money if it comes back, AU53. AU58-MS61, it would be worth it, from my standpoint.
I don't want to put words in 900's mouth but I think he means it would be bodybagged due to the damage on the obverse. That's my opinion too.
My first thoughts nice coin, my second thought jewelry piece. I'd keep it and not worry about sending it to TPG. Enjoy the coin, I would.
Other than the obverse looking as if it was attached to something, like a jewelery piece, it looks great! :thumb:
Even if it can't be gadded it's still a nice coin to have raw. I wonder if it would be worth it to submit it for proper restoration by NGC ? maybe they could fix the mount marks. Question: are the mount mark black residue or is it buffing from friction ?
AS a person who does not collect , being you. I'd keep it as is. I agress with '900' probably would not be gradable. Any one who does -it would be a waste of money. Depending upon how many coins you were left, I'd make a wall display . Nice rememberance
I do collect coins in a way. I have bought bulk wheat backs on ebay and I have been buying silver coins from people i know for about 25 years. nothing of great value. Got a few worth maybe a few hundred dollars each.
I wonder if anyone considered the milling near 6 o'clock on the obverse. It seems to be at an angle, and should be straight. (at a 90 degree angle to the rim.) I wonder.......
milling on obverse are you talking about what looks like a braid along the rim and if it is not straight what does that mean
