Add a few more Canadian notes to my collection that is. Not CU beauuties but added two more denominations to my Devil's Hair/Head collection. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0004-18.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0005-17.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0006-16.jpg Now find the Devil in the hair folks. It's there. I was excited when some people came in with a stash of 1954 Canadian notes. A quick look revealed 6 ones, a two, a five and ten with the Devil's Head. Alas the 20 didn't have it. Now I own the 1, 2, 5 and 10. Just need the 20, 50, 100 and 1000. Don't see me completing that run anytime soon!
I don't know guys, I've been starring at snaz's picture for five minutes now and I don't see no.....wait a minute....I see a kitten. What would Dr. Rohrshock say?
It's an odd piece folks and much easier to spot when compared to a NON Devil's Head. Once you see it they'll always jump out at you. Look at the picture Snaz circled and look at the lightest areas. That's where the features are. The biggest light area is the nose then work it from there. Why would anyone collect such a thing and why a premium? The story behind it actually. Appparently the guy that designed the note was very anti-loyalist and purposely added this feature. When it was "discovered" let's say the Queen was not amused and it was changed.
I just bought a $2 bill devils hair note over the weekend hehe. My first devils hair note! I got a great deal on it too
Ok, thanks to Snaz's picture I see it. That's pretty cool. Is it just on the 1954 notes or all the $2 bills?
Nice pick up because they are also beautiful notes to begin with. I have the one and two in CU and they are really sharp. The "Devil" is found only on certain 1954 notes. Denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and $1000. When the "Devil" was discovered the design of the hair was changed to remove it.
Thanks Dan. I can see it now. And thanks for filling me in on something within the hobby that I knew totally nothing about....
Ok & I was always told that it was called that cause her hair made her look like she had a horn. Thanks!
Actually it was result of "... The faithful reproduction of the original photograph." - Charlton Standard Catalogue Canadian Government Paper Money. It was changed because of the controversy it created.
Hi Clembo, I was looking at the back of the two canadian dollars and found on the $5 bill the back plate number looks to me like its 11. on the $10 I found nothing. Maybe I missed it. Dean
