Will Reverse Eagle Quarters (1932-1999) become the Wheat Cent of Tomorrow

I'm curious if you think we'll ever return to the eagle reverse on the quarter, and if not will they become as popular as the wheat cent?

I tried to create a poll but couldn't (don't know how).

not with as many as were minted between 65 and 98.

 

1: I don't think they will go back to the old eagle design.
2: I do not think that they will become the next "wheat cent" because the design was around for 16 more more years than the wheat cent design. And as bq said, there were many minted.

 

Wheat cents are popular?
I just buy them for their copper content so I that can melt them down.

Clad quarters have no melt value.

 

How and where do you melt them if you don't mind me asking? Do you just hoard them? (pm me)

 

There's about 145 copper cents in a pound and copper is trading at $1.82 a pound.

Even if you're lucky enough to find bulk bags of wheat cents at cost, I wouldn't order that Porshe just yet.

No, at least not the clad issue. Total mintage 1965 to 1998 was 37.5+ billion and there's little if any value over face in circulated condition. These coins will be around for a long time and you'll probably get to see some AG & G unless you're a fossil like me.

The silver are pretty much gone from circulation.

 

Anybody who works in a machine shop with a heat treat oven can create bricks of copper with pre-82 cents. It does happen, I do not do it , but have seen it done when copper was $4 a pound.

 

I don't think they will be like wheats because they are not being horded. In the case of the quarter it is the new issues that are horded, so from what i have noticed in pocet change the ratio is abaut half and half, new vs eagle.

 

I'm not a Porche fan, although I have been to their facility in Stuttgart. I'm a fan of the XJ6 but $1,500 for front brakes? you gotta be kidding me.

 

A melted glob of copper makes a fine fishing weight...wink wink...

 

I started collecting with my dad in the mid to late 60's and you could usually find a couple of wheats in a pocket of change. I'm seeing mostly state quarters at about 2 to 3 to one. I work downtown in an area surounded by large banks, which could be the reason.
