So, after looking at my harshly cleaned F-VF $10 eagle; I know its time to upgrade. The pictures make this coin look way worse than it does in hand, but it still is in fact harshly cleaned. I bought it for melt about 1.5 years ago.
I came upon this beauty. While its not the greatest strike, I am quite fond of the orange peel toning, which was a major selling point to me. The price was right, and it's graded by ICG. I'm thinking about turning the first one into a pocket piece. I welcome comments grade-wise, or just in general regarding either of these coins.
well if you use it as your pocket piece you shouldn't hurt it any worse than that last cleaning it received. Who knows maybe a little wear might help it.
yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. When I initially bought it, I really didn't understand what "cleaning" was, so the hairlines didn't bother me one bit. Now that I understand it, it sticks out like a sore thumb in my collection. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss, eh??:goofer: I may end up selling it, but I'm kind of in a "bullion hoarding" phase as well as being a collector. When/if I decide to sell some of my bullion, it will be the first to go along with junk silver. I'm still fond of it though, just because I like the design so much. It might be fun to carry around with me. I just need to make sure none of my pants have pocket holes!!!
haha. well, it looks like it spent some time kicked around on the side of the road anyways.....:hammer: aww, poor eagle. I guess I can be mean to my own coins, eh?
nice coin mill! Yeah, AU-58 type coins are the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Especially if you cherry pick one that has very few hits. You basically get a full luster coin that looks better than most 60-61s, with almost imperceivable wear at a large discount. lol.
I would have that coin inspected in-hand by an expert. The hazy look on both sides concerns me...Mike
