I would say it's worth about 25 cents. 1968 is a common year and the last year that we had silver in our coins was back in 1967 although some 68 do contain silver they are not too ... post a pic and I can tell you more

Yes, 71,464,000 were minted in .5000 silver. Actual Silver Weight is 0.0937 oz. Anything below MS60 is still worth bullion value (about $1.30).

An additional 88,686,931 were minted in nickel.

Silver got too expensive to continue its use.

HEADS UP to KENCHENKY: Nickel coins are darker in color and attracted to a magnet.

i try it with magnet , no response! according to your commends, it was made by sliver! so, how much is it worth? thanks advise again!

I saw a quote for silver at $13.83 an ounce on Friday 3/20/09 so:

    $13.83 x 0.0937oz = $1.295871 bullion value

I have one without ridges on the side. Is it worth more?

Pictures would help.If your coin is in mint condition ,yes, unless it has been ground down. The coin may have missed one step in the minting process. If it is in circulated condition it could just be worn. The silver quarters circulated quite a bit until about 1972/3 before hoarding and silver melt went up.

I'll take a picture of it tomorrow. It appears to have been in circulation though. It's just that the ridges are completely absent. If it was wear, I would think there would be traces of ridges left. I don't think it is silver. It looks and sounds like the coins made starting in mid-year 1968.

Maybe used in casinos for the slot machines. That will wear off the ridges.
