With all the other stuff going on, and with the neumismatic press ignoring it, the Puerto Rico Quarter will come out with little or no fanfare. Since few of us have seen any of the new pennies, I"m sure not many of us will see the PR quarter until late spring or early summer. (not counting unc or proof sets, which don't count)
I would be happy to pick them up I just have to find a page to go in my Dansco for them next LOL Are the cents in circulation yet?
Yawn all you want. The design has many of the state quarters beat. I'll collect them if nothing else because I can get them for face value!
Probably released too late for any to be on sale at the Baltimore show (Fri, 27 Mar). I'll pick up some Unc DC quarters and get the territories as they arrive. But that's the end of it. No Pres dollars. No National Parks. No new Lincoln cents. Except from circulation. I won't pay a premium anymore for UNCs.
I only get the annual proof and unc sets, and then I try to get the stuff from circulation. No rolls or anything like that.
BTW, if you don't like some segment of numimatic collectable, no problem. I personally don't care for most of the Mint's special items (state quarters being the exception). But please don't make it sound like someone's a idiot if they do. Everyone has their personal tastes. For the young beginner, state quarters may be the best they can do at this time. Don't make them feel embarrassed to say so. Some are very proud of what they've accomplished.
I personally look forward to seeing the PR quarter. It should be interesting an PR is has been a dynamic part of our country for a long time now which should be better appreciated. Ruben
I'd like to see it in circulation too, but frankly, I doubt there will be billions and billions of them stamped out like some of the first Statehood quarters were.
Thank you! I think the state quarter program brought a great deal of people into the collecting community. It deserves a lot more credit than a lot of people are giving it. As for the territory quarters, I say great! If you do not care for a design or the whole series, don't collect them!
Hello I think, FWIW, the state quarters are a little bit much but I agree in general that coin collectors can have vast areas of interest and not every interesting coin needs to be an expensive rarity. Some of the State Quarter designs were quite good, but the best part of the series, IMO, is that the Mint actually was galvanized to product quality strikes and mintable designs. I think most of us grow weary of the barrage of special commemorations at this point. They seem determined to flood us with the coin of the week. But there are still some nice gem examples and otherwise interesting circulating coins. It would be better if they finally just killed the Washington quarter, but still
