Those were only a few of what was in the internal tray. There was lots of other modern change in there. She handed me the Ike and all the damaged and bent US coins, along with the foreigns and tokens. We were looking for some kennedys I dumped that got stuck inside. Found those too!

So I feel a new strategy coming on:

    1) Buy rolls of Kennedys at my bank. They're always someone's dumps, and the bank's always happy to get rid of them. (And maybe someday one won't be a dump.)
    2) Dump them a roll or two at a time into CoinStars, selecting a no-fee Amazon gift card for payout. (There's always another Amazon order coming up.)
    3) Innocently ask at customer service if we could check the inside of the machine, because "it made a funny noise" and "I'm not sure all my coins got counted". (Maybe I should run through some other denominations, so the ticker tape looks plausible.)
    4) Profit! Maybe.

These aren't Coinstar finds, I got them at work, but I thought I'd share them here anyway.
This Kennedy Half looks like it has had all kinds of bad things happen to it. Looks like it has been on a parking lot, has been spooned and has been attacked by a coin roller machine!! The pictures of the obverse and reverse, are not out of focus, that's how this coin looks in hand!! The picture of the rim is out of focus, but wanted to make sure you got to see the abuse it took! 20210117_112104.jpg 20210117_112442.jpg 20210117_112210.jpg

This is a 1992 Baharain 10 Fils. Someone tried to pass it off as a nickel. I went ahead and gave them a nickel for it, even though its only worth about 2.5 cents.

I could have lied and said I found them in a Coinstar. Would that have made a difference?

I guess that's like all of those posts under Error Coins that are just PMD.

Nahhh...those are just people who don't understand what they have or how coins are minted and don't understand how coins are minted and think that everything that is unusual about. I understood what I was doing. Didn't mean to tick anyone off though. :(

I've seen the guy service the Coin Star and he has to account for all the
internal rejects. I saw an Eisenhower as well as some bent dimes and pennies.
I couldn't tell if one of the dimes were silver or not.
He did give me a Marge Simson elongated cent.

Found a dime in the slot today. Not photo worthy.

The other day I found a dime on the floor below a machine to the side of the Coinstar. I was hoping that it was silver and someone dropped it while taking it out of the reject tray. It was a good thought, but turned out to be a 1984-D! 10 cents is never bad, though :)

image.jpg So today must’ve been my lucky day. To start, I got married today after 6 years of being together! Then I went to the store to pick up our cake and found this in the coin star! I did a quick glance and didn’t see any keepers but it is still almost $10 that I didn’t have before. Happy for sure!

Congrats on both the Coinstar find and the marriage - hope that means that you'll have a "rich" life together!

I used to get big scoops like that once in a while, until they "fixed" the machines.

Found this little jewel in the reject tray at Coinstar in Kroger along with a couple of nickels!

Finds from this morning. The smaller coins were in the reject slot. The quarters were hiding under the front of the machine. No, I am not embarrassed by getting down and finding silver under the machine!

The same store, same machine, the dime of course was under the front of the machine:

The dime is a '51-D. The nickel is stuck in a watch back.
