Ever hear or see an overdate mintmark on a 37’ Walking Liberty? D over S.

Looks like a hit to me. I think I see a bit of an impact on the edge of the ground to the right of the D, and in line with the hit to the top of that letter.

I would disagree. There is definitely something going on with the MM!

    2mh - I agree with you -

There is definitely something going on with the Mintmark!

However, it's damage, and not a D/S, imo

You're correct, there is something going on with the mm. It's damaged.

Look at the mark above the D. Where's the serif on the "S"? Does it match the size of an S mm, or is it too big? Whatever caused the mark, it wasn't from an S mm punch at the mint

The position of the S mm on a 37’ looks consistent with the position and shape of the mark above the D I think.

It's a D mintmark and something a long time ago damaged the top of it. Definitely not a D over an S.

I never said it was a D over S, Just something curiously odd about it.

The OP did, in the thread title.

That reply was intended for the two other posters responding to mine. I believe the anomaly is nothing more than a hit ,die chip or something of the like. But with the pics provided it's impossible to know for sure.

Gotcha. I thought you were saying that to me as my reply was directly above yours. Have a great day! :)
