    Hmmm....ok

    1) Dayglow orange is the color that hunters wear so they don't get shot by other hunters when they are hunting out in the field (i.e. it is easy to see).

    2) The grave yard shift is from 11:00pm to 7:00am (i.e. it's dark outside)

    3) Since it's dark at night it's dark inside the car.

    4) Like most folks in the US, I keep change in my cup holders, some on the floor of the passenger side, even some loose change in the arm rest storage area.

    5) I need 75 cents for the toll.

    6) I sprayed the quarters orange so that when I was approaching the toll, I could look at the change scattered about the car and easily pick out the quarters. The passing light from the street lights as I drove along was enough to light up the orange so I could pull them out before I got to the toll booth. Driving in a dark car at night with cups full of change it was hard to tell a nickel from a quarter so by spraying them dayglow orange, i was able to pick out 75 cents and not drive off the road or hit another car.

Why not have a cup with nothing but quarters? That seems easier than having to paint them (both sides, I assume).

    Got it :p

Could you elaborate a bit more ? what is this toll you speak of ? and if I were to hunt one would i need to cover myself in dayglow paint ?

That would be good but the car is the family car and nothing stays sorted for very long in a family vehicle. Between hunting for vending machine money to the spray and wash car washer..coins get mixed up.

It was more fun to spray the coins on a sunny saturday afternoon. The kids had fun spraying them.

Since you are from Canada, I'll try to translate.

I can't really elaborate any more, if you can't understand that, then there is no hope for you...ROFLMFAO.

The toll is essentially a penalty that we, in the US, have to pay because we want to drive on a certain road that is more convenient that the free road.

And no ..you don't actually hunt the toll but if you were to go hunting animals for food or sport, yes, you would most likely wear some orange on your body unless you don't mind getting shot and killed by the others in your party.

So you're saying Americans have special magical roads that require gold to pass on them ? and if i we're to hunt .... let's say fesent THEN i would put on orange so not to get shotgunned in the face by my "party" members ??

PS I'm just yanking your chain... funny idea for the quarters but as you mentioned canadian's don't have many toll roads.

I think somebody was trying to make an error out of it a waffle coin and did not do a good job at it. I could not see any other explaination for this type of damaged coin, like i said an atempt to make an error coin and falied at it.The coin could have been an encaseed coin also ,and when taking it out also got damaged

The edge is actually smooth. That's just my crappy photo croping.

It appears to have been done long ago. I picture a kid working in a factory throwing it into a machine to jam it and stop production.

Se that's what I would think or kicking it around on a grid like walkway or something of the sorts..

Just my opinion here but if the coin had been tossed into a machine and the damage done by that machine the marks would be random. Those marks are not random. I think it is 99.999% certain that the coin was carved up by someone.

Well, whether it was a machine or a hand held tool I bet the thought process was the same. " dang, I wonder what this thing would do to a penny "

The hobo nickel in post 9 is spectacular. I also like love tokens. I only have one but have thought about collecting more of them. They can be very nicely done and very affordable.

    defacing the cheney remarks…from a yank…all’s well.

i have a friend who works on toll coin collection collectors and he complained about coins with paint or some kind of orange stuff clogging up the cogs in the coin collection collectors that he kept continually and having constantly to clean. Any concepts on what this might be?

just having fun. Not a true story. I am sorry.
maybe he needs to try some brail quarters (2003)…
sorry again, i cant help it.
    all’s well

please don’t hate me because i am a coin collector.

    all in fun. ;)

    WHAT WERE WE TALKING ABOUT?
