H.R. 1923 has become law -- New multi-design circulating quarter program to begin in 2022

H.R. 1923, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, has been passed by Congress and was just signed by the President. This makes the "Washington crossing the Delaware" quarter a one-year-only design (2021) and then, in 2022 through 2025, there will be up to 5 reverse designs per year depicting prominent women, by state.

Then, in 2026, there will be 5 quarter designs in celebration of the Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) of the U.S.A., and all other circulating coins (cent, 5-cent, dime, half dollar and dollar) will have a redesign of their obverse and reverse for that one year only.

Then, in 2027 through 2030, there will be up to 5 quarter reverse designs per year depicting youth sports, and also one reverse design of Paralympic sports on half dollars annually for 2027 through 2030.

Wow.... If I were a collector trying to fill Dansco's in the 22nd century, I wouldn't be happy....

 

Wow, the potential for DDO's, DDR's, OMM's and whatever else is really going to grow.
With luck I won't remember about the new releases and therefore not be tempted to buy any (I wouldn't anyway even if I did remember).

To paraphrase modern numismatic investment guidance:
You know how create a million dollar coin collection?
Spend two or three million on new US Mint releases.

 

As a collector in the 21st Century, I am not happy. Numerous new quarters, half dollars and dollars.

 

Get ready for more W mint marks, privy marks, and sales gimmicks.

 

So, the 2021 "Washington Crossing the Delaware" quarter will be a one-year-only issue. I can see the prices going sky-high. I hope that I'll be able to get the bags from the Mint before they sell out in 15 seconds and the site crashes.

I don't like it. The series get dull after a while. I wish we'd have a full-time design plus a couple commems every year, the way most other countries do it.

 

I toughed it through the State Quarters and they dumped ATB on us. I didn't count, but it seems like a person has to buy about 100 quarters a year to keep up. And, all too many are at a premium. I will not play that game again. But enough people will to let the mint think it is a desirable product line.

 

I don't think you have enough years in there. It takes 10 years to get a woman from each state and 10 years for youth sports.

 

First you have 50 plus for the territories for Philadelphia and another 50 plus for Denver. Lets not forget the S mints and all the special items the mint comes out with. This new series will be closer to 200 I think.

I was thinking how many per year. But, about 200 sounds close when you consider all the special releases they come up with. Then consider the premiums on some. Not me.

 

On a more serious note, how about state fossils? Although it might not be the most practical, as several states already have the same state fossil.

 

On the other hand, does anyone know if the obverse design for 2021 will stay the same or will they revert back to the 2000-2020 low relief?

Yes, after re-reading the wording of the bill, I think that the words "by state" should be eliminated from my original message. Apparently 20 prominent women, 5 per year, will be chosen for the years 2022-2025, with no connection to states. And there is also no connection to states in the youth sports designs. I also notice that they use the wording "up to five" designs per year in the bill, indicating that they could possibly issue less than 5 designs in a given year.

 

I see. But, it is still too many coins. Many will disagree, but, I don't consider it collecting if all you do is subscribe to some releases. It will be serious collecting if you decide to pull them from circulation.
