So I was wandering through the Bullion Investing forum when was mentioned that someone purchased counterfeit silver bars at a gun show.
Wow! The lights went on for me.
Excellent security, willing buyers carrying cash, limited numismatic knowledge overall. Fish meet barrel.
I have a huge hoard of silver dimes that I’m into for about a buck ea
    Many worn Mercurys
Any members had luck selling in these venues?

I haven't sold at gun shows. I have certainly made it a point to go to gun shows looking for coin deals. Rather like looking at pawn shops for a deal. Every now and again I run into something, but usually the stuff is overpriced for what it is.

I'll assume you're talking about the folks who sold the fake silver bars, and not OP.

:jawdrop: I admire you. With your knowledge, you've been able to resist cherrypicking under graded and under priced coins.

The country needs you. Perhaps you should run for office or work for one of the Internet platforms monitoring the speech and morals of others.

Overpriced! Bingo. No competition, buyers of legal age, most without criminal records. Many buying weaponry with no intention of hunting. Most would resell an AR in heartbeat
I’m a heartless soul. $5 Mercurys $7 with your initials stamped on it
    Color me entrepreneurial

Um, I didn't know the Second Amendment had a secret addendum that the right to bear arms is only for shooting squirrels. I don't own any guns since I am fearful of having them in a house with small children, but I sure do not try to demonize those who legally own guns for whatever purpose they feel the need them for, be it hunting, target shooting, personal protection, etc.

It's almost like someone keeps hinting that they have no respect for a certain group of people and are more than happy to try and take advantage of them. Would be terrible if someone were to hypothetically be advocating that

I agree and not actually, (if you are referring to selling at gun shows).

The weird thing about coin collecting is we tend to live in a certain level of the market. We do it so often and so long we forget we are doing it. We live in the "I know what grey sheet says, (or auction results, etc), are informed buyers, and know plenty of competitors for similar products" area. Informed buyers. As such, we simply laugh at what the Littleton's and TV shows charge, and accuse them of overcharging. However, there is a time and place value to items besides innate value. Littleton and TV shows provide time and place value for buyers, just like buying groceries at a gas station is more expensive than most grocery stores.

So yeah, going there with an intent to "rip off" someone is not good, setting up at such a show and offering coins that buyers there may not have any clue can be bought and where to buy them is offering time and place utility for many. As such, a premium to over costs and risk is not out of line.

Just my opinion. Like I said, we live so long at "low retail, high wholesale" pricing levels many of us no longer even realize that MOST people do not know what we know, and our knowledge is valuable. Its not immoral for others to pay more than we do, just like gas stations or airport kiosks are not "immoral", just expensive and avoided if you know better.

Guns have been in my parents house since before I was born. We lived in Washington DC. In the 1950's my dad shot a rat with a 30-06 under the porch in our front yard with a bunch of us kids watching (the rat refused to take the cheese from the trap). All the boys and girls learned how to shoot in summer camp - first w/bb's then with pellets. We shot 22's in HS. It all comes down to teaching respect and the proper use for firearms.

Every person I have introduced to guns (usually women :D:p;)) got over any apprehension and loved them. There are ways to keep your guns safe in a house w/kids and I would suggest everyone have some, teach their kids about them, and know the proper way to use them if an unfortunate situation ever comes. Knowledge is better than fear or ignorance. A gun is just a tool. Some are actually beautiful. Like any tool (including a screwdriver) there is a proper way to treat them or you can get hurt or hurt someone else.

Not an anti gun guy, just be sure to be careful with them.
My father was a cop and worked at Remington Arms, Ilion, NY
And Fire Chief in neighboring village.
I’ve been a hunter since age 14, gun owner still. When I was 4 years old my father would shoot a rabbit and I’d race our beagle to fetch it

I understand sir. I am not anti or pro gun really. I was an armorer in the Army, and got trained in sniper school and was expert in maybe 14 weapons at one time. However, between having small kids, my hearing damaged so that it hurts to hear guns nearby, and a little flashback to the Gulf war if I hear them I do not own any. I know some are misused, however I have friends and relatives who use them responsibly. Just like alcohol. I do not drink, but many do responsibly but others misuse it. Same for marijuana for medical purposes. I simply do not know how to prevent the misuse without harming those who use it responsibly. I do not use any of those three things, but support the right of those who do use them responsibly to continue to do so.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post.

    No harm, no foul
The photo I posted with the stop sign has my first dog of my own. A pointer who was running wild with several siblings at a local farm. They told me if I could catch one he was mine. We learned to love each other

You are cracking me up, also probably a successful entrepreneur in this regard. Hey, at least they're getting something that is legitimate - a real silver coin. I suppose QVC and the other coin shows and sellers (Littleton?!?!?!) aren't making money?

I don't own any guns, I did have a shotgun for clay pigeon shooting, but I like shooting and respect them for their proper purposes. I also learned how to shoot in camp, back in the day before it was all politics the NRA was an educational organization and you'd get your Marksman badge / medal, Marksman First-Class, etc - it was fun and competitive target shooting. I am lucky to have a hunter in the family so we typically have a nice supply of venison in the freezer after hunting season.
