The Harry W. Bass Foundation Harry W. Bass was undoubtedly one of the greatest collectors of all time. At his death in 1998 his was the most extensive collection of US gold coins ever assembled. He also owned one of the largest numismatic libraries ever formed of over 10,000 numismatic books and catalogs. The Bass Foundation web site is an invaluable resource for those who wish to take the time to use it. The amount of information that it contains surpasses any other site that I know of and includes a complete gallery of the Bass collection as well as a searchable database of the library. Thanks for posting this! I just went to the Bass foundation and they have the coins all pictured. Just beautiful. The collection is out of this world.
Yeah, this is one old thread that definitely deserves to be kept current. But the grades that the coins have are not listed apparently, at least not for Saints.
I can't find the searchable database of the library. I'm seeing a biography, a coin collection gallery and information regarding grants. Am I doing something wrong, or is the website still in the works?
Ah, I see. From GD's description in OP I was expecting digitized full reference materials and old auction catalogs, such as the Newman Numismatic Portal contains.
That's kinda what it used to have. But things have changed a lot in 15 years. Back when that description was posted, that website was about as good as it gets. In looking at it now, I don't any links for the searchable library database that used to be there. I dunno, perhaps it's been moved over to ANS now. I'm not that savvy in searching these portals, how would I go about looking for old auction catalogs from the 1970's and 1980's at Newman and Bass websites ?
